Got my dress today...but not all went as planned. Woes!

posted 1 month ago in Beehive

Today was my big "get my dress day".  I found the one I wanted months ago, and finally went to try it on.  I tried on two first, then went straight for my dress I'm in love with.  It fit like a dream!!  And the price was perfect!  I never imagined I'd be wearing a ball gown with crinolin (sp?) skirt and all...but it was to perfect to pass up!  Well...the woes are these: no one showed up for this momentous occassion.  It was important to me that certain people be there.  My one bridesmaid's car broke down.  Ok.  Then the other one got stuck doing work stuff.  Fine.  Then, my mother conveniently forgot today was dress day in order to start more drama in my life.  Then, I spoke to my sister and found out my dumbass FH let loose on some of his feelings to them the last time we were all together.  See...my family lives in dramaville and they love to take things people say and twist them around.  So now they think I'm making even more of a mistake in marrying him.  My whole fam already has their doubts.  Now it's worse.  Ug.  I tried to let this day just be about me and my dress.  So much for that.

i'm sorry your dress day didn't go as you'd hoped. but honestly, there are a lot of occasions like this that are very important to a bride... and i think that if you have expectations that certain people be there or act a certain way you're not only expecting too much out of your family and friends but also setting your self up for disappointment.

i know that picking up your dress was important to you. but face it, if someone else you know was getting married and she asked you to join her to pick up her dress, would you drop everything and treat it like a momentous occasion? i mean, sure, i'd go with - i'd probably even be really excited for her... but it's really not as important to other people as it is to the bride.

my worry here is really on the fact that you called your FH a "dumbass" and then can't understand why your family has doubts about this union.

you will never, ever have a whole day that is "just about you and your dress". the closest that will come to that (due to the attention being on you all day and such) is your actual wedding day. but honestly, if you see it that way or if that's what you really care about, i'd try to re-think the whole situation. please put things into perspective.
