Things are getting way scary weather-wise. It really gets me to wondering how long we really have left on this planet...
Sending lots of love and positive thoughts to all those affected. How terrifying. I can't even imagine.
I know! When I heard I immediately thought of the Sewings and the Poodles. I'll be thinking about them and their families. :(
My family is in Hawaii as well.
Since the moment I woke up I have been reading every news update. I couldnt even reach them on their cellphones cause the lines were busy! argh! it'll be hard waiting till 11:19am (hawaii time) to find out what happens!
I'm sending out good thoughts and prayers to all bees in Hawaii, if some are in Chile, and others in island areas, including Japan, in the Pacific ocean.
I guess we won't know what is going to happen until more time is passed.
Just know we're thinking of you. Even coastal CA (according to my aunt) is thinking they'll get much much larger waves as a result of this catastrophe.
I'm also sending good thoughts and prayers. I have friends going to school over there.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone in Chile and Hawaii. Was thinking about Mrs. Poodle and anyone honeymooning in either place.
I lived in Chile for 9 years. I still haven't been able to get in touch with most of the people I know who are there. At least Santiago has very strict building codes for earthquakes so hopefully that protected alot of people. My heart goes out to them.
I live in Chile right now, in La Serena. I felt an earthquake this morning, and I live over 500 miles north of the epicenter in Concepcion (southern chile).
For those who have family in Chile, cell phones were out this morning, and internet has been town until just now. Internet may be spotty for the next few days.
The santiago airport is closed for the next 40-72 hours; it sustained heavy damage in the earthquake.
I have some friends in concepcion, I hope they and their families are safe :(
Are the Bear Cubs still in Chile? Hope they're okay.... everyone in Chile and Hawaii are in my thoughts, so sad to see another disaster.
@bear cub - we posted at the same time. I hope your friends are safe!
@bearcub http://chilepersonfinder.appspot.com/ might be useful for you. There are several state and aid organizations using it.
From what I saw on a news briefing, the damage in Chile isn't horrendous, as in it wasn't leveled like Haiti was. I'm sure there is a lot of structural damage and such, but they are more accustomed to earthquakes and as a result have built their structures to withstand them. As far as the Tsunami warning goes, they have been bless with a couple hours heads up so hopefully there are minimal casualties, if any (except you know some bone-headed person is going to want to stick around to video tape it, or watch it, etc, and get caught up in it)
I woke up to sirens at 6am (well actually I woke up like one minute before they went off, strangely...) and they've gone off several times since. They keep changing the schedule but everyone is warned. The line to get gas was nuts (I went to one that happened to be running outta gas and the pumps were slow.) and the grocery stores are packed and lots of things are closed, but hopefully nobody gets hurt!!
Hopefully the death toll in Chile doesn't get much higher although they said on the radio that was what "they" anticipate... :(
im glad the bears are ok. anything on Ms. Poodle's family? Praying for everyone in Chile and other affected areas.
From what I hear from my firends the big island broke up most of it. 7 ft waves were the max where they were.
hope everyone else is safe as well!
This really scared me. These disasters are happening too frequently lately. 8.8 is monstrous! I can't even imagine that. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.
OOps missed this on Mrs. Bear Cub. I had justed posted in the Wedding Bee folder about this.

Dear Bees,
If you had not already heard, last night there was an 8.8 earthquake in Chile. Severe to catastrophic damage is predicted in Chile. As a result of the earthquake, there are tsunami warnings all the way to the coast of California.
Tsunamis are expected to hit Hawaii at ~11am local time (4pm EST) and evacuations are underway. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61Q1A720100227
Please call your friends, family, and loved ones in Hawaii to ensure they are awake and aware of the evacuations.
Prayers going out to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Sewing.
