We are supposed to be getting married 9/24/11 - we paid in full $19,000 3 weeks ago, and found out last week that our venue is going out of business, ceased operations, and has no plans to give us our money back... Our invitations went out.  Plus, it was all-inclusive - our ceremony with officiant AND reception site, our lve band, our caterer, and even our wedding cake.  I do not know what to do.  We have been interviewed by local media and are hoping someone will save us - our wedding is 8 weeks away!  If ANYONE out there knows David Tuter or something, please contact me ! brettannecondon@gmail.com

WOW!  That really sucks!  You definitely have a case to sue.  Call your lawyer!  You may have to change your date too.  Good luck!  Please let us know what happens

@brettannecondon: Do you have a contract with them? What does their contract say about failure to provide service?

I am so so so sorry...

There is nothing I can do for you, but since it was only 3 weeks ago that you paid, you should be able to file with your bank/credit card company to get your money back.

I really hope everything works out for you.

Yeah, maybe try to cancel the check / stop payment on the credit card? I would also call a lawyer, because that's a LOT of money!

Call your local news/newspaper. I bet they will run a story and local vendors will step up to help you out.

@honeyoats22: it is so frustrating.. the checks already cleared.  I am actually a lawyer and some of the partners in my firm are trying to help out, but if I have to resort to litigation, we would not get our $ back until way after we are supposed to have our wedding :(

Yeah, you better sue the pants off them! Even if it's after your wedding, that is a *lot* of money for them to just think they can run off with.

If it were me, I would sue them for the money they took, plus threaten to sue for any excess money that you had to shell out as a result of their mistake.

They knew they were closing- they had to know! How can a company, in good faith, do that to someone?

OP-I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

The problem is, if they file bankruptcy (And I bet they are), they will be protected by the bankruptcy courts and no one can get anything from them--can't sue them or make any other motions to get any money from them, until the courts decide who will get money and how much they will get.

I hope someone sees the news article and is able to help you.

This is awful!! I am so so so so sorry!!! I cant imagine. I agree tho sue the shit out of them. That is so wrong. They had to have known when you wrote that check that they were going out of business. It still amazes me how terrible people can be. Again I dont know what to say but Im sorry. Go over that contract with a fine tooth comb and I hope everything works out keep us updated.

Ughh!! Even if you sue they're going out of business, they probably have a thousand creditors that have already eaten up your money! Call the local news station. In NYC we have "7 on your side" on ABC do they have that in Philly? I looked up the info on David Tutera, I guess the show is a lot more contrived than I thought, he doesn't really "save" the wedding, they cast the entire season way in advance.

Can you start looking at parks and gardens that will be really low cost? Tell all your friends, someone always knows a photog and a DJ personally. So sorry this happened to you girl!

This makes me sick.. As a lawyer I would hope you would think to include something in the contract about delivery of services ect..

    19k is serious money.

I think Jim Donovan on Channel 3 does the '3 on your side' segment and maybe can be contacted. This is really so awful. Is this the Philadelphia Belle? We contacted them for a possible high school reunion, just this week.

    I'm so sorry. :(
