Wow, that's amazing! I've only been there once, so I'm no help, but congrats to you and Mr. KM!
YAY for your big move to Connecticut! Oh and CONGRATS to your hubby! Unfortunately, I have never been there so I can't help you with that. Sorry!
Yes it is GORGEOUS. I visited some colleges out there and the towns....it's jsut beautiful. I always said I wanted to live in Connecticut if i had the choice. It's full of history!
That's amazing! I have never been but at least you are close to a lot of other states!
do we have a local board there? and if so, is it active? :)
Congrats to MrKM!
I'm glad things are firming up for you guys... I know the uncertainty has been a source of frustration.
So the next question on my mind is ... what will MrsKM be doing in the beautiful northeast?
ETA: http://boards.weddingbee.com/board/connecticut 3 pages of posts, not bad for a local board! Looks like there are at least a few bees out there who can tell you about Connecticut!
Eeeek I'm so happy for you guys!! I've always drooled over Yale because I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan (yes geek!) Thats how I know the Yale fight song K! (oh my I just read what I wrote! Ahh!!)
Brrr if you think KY is cold... have fun w/ CT winters! :)
hi -- i'm from CT actually --- I havent' spent much time in New Haven, but grew up about an hour away.... It was a great place to grow up, and I loved being by the ocean - I've lived in Boston since I came here to go to college, and probably won't go back to live, but a lot of my friends and family still live there.
New Haven is great because you're so close to NYC, and Boston is only a couple hours North -- also, not sure where you're from -- but east coast is amazing because you've got the coastline, then you can easily head North to ski. I spent most summers in RI on the beach - LOVE it!
I have a friend that lives in Woodbridge that is very close to New Haven and a nice suburb, Woodbridge also has some excellent outlets!
Let me know if you have any specific questions about it!
I visited there once and it is gorgeous!!! Congrats to Mr. KM :)
I live in CT, not in New Haven but fairly close by!
I think it's great and I plan to stay (I have the perspective of having lived in a few other parts of the country). High cost of living, but other than that, I heart it. New Haven has a lot to offer (restaurants, culture etc) and is not quite as expensive as the part of the state that is closer to NYC.
If you've been to NY and MA I don't think it's all that different, save for minor local quirks.
My FI is from that area, that's where we're moving after the wedding. I like it there, its a great place for a family and there's nice restaurants/nightlife for adults.
Congrats! My parents live in CT and I grew up there. New Haven is not amazing, but there are really nice parks and beaches in that area of the state. Here are some of my favorite places close to New Haven:

Ooooh I'll definintely be posting on the CT boards, and -prettyflowers , GirlWithARing, and ADMBoston I'm sure I'll be PMing you at some point for some.. reassurance? Ha ha ha ha!
I'm totally freaked out by the winters! And, well, I'm from the south and I don't have a TWANG, but I can turn it on and off and sometimes a long vowel will pop out!
RB- you owe me a PM! I can't even remember what I asked you in it, but I know it was alot of stuff, ha ha ha ha!
*jawdrop*
WOW! Congrats! You landed yourself a smart cookie huh?
I've never been to CT but considered moving there if we ever move back closer to NYC. It's within driving distance depending on where. Seems like a beautiful state!
Yay Connecticut! I grew up there as well. I haven't spent that much time in New Haven - I'm from the southwestern part of the state, but there are some nice areas. It's near the shore, which is great when the weather's warmer.
There's a lot of historical stuff... a lot of old fishing/whaling towns. I love love love summer at home. Also, I don't know what the falls are like where you've lived, but you'll get some really great fall leaves. I'm not a big winter fan in general and while CT winter is way worse than the South or California, it's not that bad. Being near the water moderates it a lot... compared to upstate NY, Northern New England, or the midwest, it's fairly mild. The snow doesn't pack down so you don't see the ground for months and it hardly ever gets into the really frigid territory... generally it's around 20s, 30s, 40 or so, with a couple cold spells and a couple warmer spells.
Feel free to PM me as well if you have any questions... my boy ended up getting a full ride on the other side of the country a couple years ago, so I can totally relate. I'm not *that* familiar with New Haven itself, though, so others may be of more help.
congrats! many parts of connecticut are very pretty, full of small towns and great restaurants!
CT is beautiful!! New Haven itself isn't the nicest part, but it still has a very cute and quaint feel. The school is really the only thing there. I've had a few friends graduate from Yale, so I've been to visit a bunch of times. Also, as others have mentioned, it's super easy to get to NYC (ahh, Metro-North)!
Welcome to New England! One thing you'll love about New England, is the fact that you are very close to alot of different states within 2hrs! And another thing you will love is the four seasons, you will LOVE Spring/ Fall (must make a weekend trip to Vermont or NH for the foilage), but HATE the winter (well I do anyways). Good Luck with your move!
My best friend from elementary school moved to CT when we were in 6th grade, so I spent most of my summers there until I graduated high school. (I'm from MA.) If you've been to MA and NY, then it's not much different. Like others have said, Yale is about the only thing in New Haven, but it has a quaint feel to it. Winters are rough, but you'll get used to it. :)
Congratulations to your fiance! Thats awesome! Not gonna lie, the winters might be rough on you at first, but rest assured - you'll get used to it. And you can always come back south after school is over and done with =) My fiance dragged me away from Puerto Rico to Boston, which is an even more drastic change, and I survived!
What do you want to do in CT? Will you be job hunting/wedding planning simultaneously?
Congrats! I love CT. I'm not from there, but SO is so we get over there a fair amount. We are even thinking of getting married there next summer.
Congratulations! OMG! So exciting! Yale, with a FULL scholarship, makes my heart stop! Very happy for you both! Hope my FI gets such great news come this fall when his applications go out!
Never been to CT(?), but I've only heard good things. Being from Wisconsin, I wouldn't think the winters are crazy, but being from the South they'll probably throw you for a loop! You'll need lots and lots of winter gear you've never had to purchase before!
You girls are making me feel SO much better about this whole thing. I'm still sad to be leaving Lexington, but it doesn't hurt that my best friend here is moving too. That being said...
How do you make new friends? I seriously am the WORST at it!

Connecticut! Because (and I'm still a little bit in disbelief about this) Mr. KM got a full tuition scholarship to Yale for his second masters! We found out last week that he had gotten in to both Harvard and Yale and were waiting for the financial aid stuff. Harvard's was a joke, but Yale's was AMAZING and since it's definintely the better of the two for his program, well, we're moving there. Still have a phd application that isn't an official no; his contact at that program told him to not send his acceptance to Yale quite yet but we're not optimistic.
Has anyone ever BEEN to Connecticut? I just learned how to spell it yesterday (ha!) and there are NO travel books about just it. I know it's tiny and while I've been to NY and MA, CT is just not a state that anyone knows anything about!
