I’m 45 years old have never been married or ever come close to ever wanting to. I have finally met the love of my life and am planning a decent size wedding. All of a sudden i’ve gotten cold feet. Is it tacky for me to wear a traditional wedding dress. My daughter and my fiance keep reassuring me that it will be fine. I found a beautiful dress, THE dress and purchased it and now am having second thoughts. Am i too old to wear a traditional dress.

Does the dress make you feel pretty and can you afford it? Then it’s your dress, no matter what your age.

Absolutely not! You can wear whatever you want – whatever makes you feel beautiful – and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. What kinds of dresses do you like?
Edit: whoops I just saw you already bought a dress! Post pics!

@judya…you can wear whatever dress you like….it’s not tacky at all. It’s your first wedding, you are entitled to all the bells and whistles that comes along with that….and that includes a beautiful white wedding gown if that’s what makes you happy.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. Of course, some styles won’t work (like a huge pouffy princess dress) but there are many traditional wedding dresses that would look beautiful.
I would love to see a photo of the dress you got!

No of course not, don’t be silly!!! Who told you it was tacky?! I’mma go smack that person.

I think you should wear whatever dress you want, especially since you haven’t been married before. Your age shouldn’t matter!

I would also love to see pictures of the dress. I agree with GirlwithaRing that over-the-top “younger” styles may not work, but I’m sure that wouldn’t be what you’re going for anyway.
Styles are so much more flexible nowadays….my mom is 51 and she just bought a long gown from the “bridesmaids” section at DB. It looks fantastic on her!

*gets in line behind EJS to smaxx the person who told you it was tacky*
Wear what makes you feel beautiful – it sounds like you have found THE dress! The only *rule* is there are no rules – only what works for you!

if it makes you feel any better, i’m having the opposite problem. i’m a young bride wearing a non traditional, casual dress. i feel like i should be wearing the big, white, traditional gown, but i just don’t want to. so i’m not going to. and if you want to wear it, than you should. there’s no right or wrong anymore.
