Has anyone seen the movie Avatar yet? It’s the new blockbuster by James Cameron that’s been under development since 1994. I really had no expectations going in, but was pretty surprised by the effects, story and depth of the treatment.
I should say that I really don’t enjoy science fiction most of the time, but this took it to a whole new level.
I’m interested in seeing what other people thought about the movie! I know that I had the same feeling about it as when I saw the original Star Wars movie (granted I was 5 and threw up in a popcorn bucket that time… but I was still blown away!)

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
I want to go see it, but crowds make me super nervous. Maybe we’ll go see it after the holidays die down.

My manager freaks out every time someone mentions that movie cause he loves it SO much! I’ve heard nothing but great things about it.

So scissors, seriously… the line went down the hall, down the stairs, onto the next level. There were so many people it was ridiculous!
Luckily, the showing we planned to go to was sold out, so we went to get some dinner and then were 10th in line. We also cut left when everyone else stayed right, so we were basically the first people there and had our pick of seats. But getting out of the theater at the end was crazy. The next showing was lined up, and it seemed like there were even more people for that one!

love love love loved Avatar! I saw it in 2D bc 3D make me sick and it was still awesome! FI wants to go see it in theatre’s again, that is how much he loved it. It definitely lived up to the hype in my opinion. Sam Worthington is a great actor, and I also just like to look at him 😉

I saw it the night it opened and I really enjoyed it. I do like some sci-fi, but am not a huge fan. But I found the story interesting, the plot was good and the animation/CG very cool.
I especially loved seeing the avatar versions of the characters. It was very neat to be able to recognize them as their avatar selves.

Was totally suprised! It was fantastic!!! Like seeing Jurassic Park for the first time, but better!

We want to see it for the technology/special effects aspect of it, definitely. I’m the same way about crowds and having cheering people in the audience around me – it sort of ruins the movie. I’ve read some blogs about the movie that are critical about the story and plot, but I’m going to see it before judging for myself.

I am going to see it tonight in IMAX and I am super excited! 🙂

My bestie went to see it and she thought it was GREAT! I hopefully will be going to see it soon..

I want to see it. It looks pretty good. But from the commercials it has a lot of similarity to Disney’s Atlantis from several years ago.
I think FI wants to see Sherlock Holmes first, though.

I seem to be the oddball. I spent the majority of the movie laughing, because it was so… special.
I figure if I want to see all CGI, I will go watch a Dreamworks movie. The guy even makes the Dreamworks face for crying out loud.
Then there was the “enhance” scene…
Then my brother bets me 15 minutes into the movie that “x” is going to happen. Later “x” happens, and it is so obvious.
I wasn’t expecting it to be good. Not at all. But sheesh! At least sometimes when I go to see a movie that I don’t have high expectations for, it is at least passable. I know it’s going to be bad, but it’s actually pretty decent. Avatar… I expected it to be bad… and it was. :/
I guess I’ll file it away with Wolverine Origins, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta as films that are never allowed in my house.
I will not be a complete negative Nancy. There was ONE good thing about this movie.
My brother and I used our student IDs, and my dad also got the discount.

SOOOO GOOOODDDDD. It was pullin’ at my heart strings at some moments, and at some points I even did a fist pump into the air (probably after somebody got punched). The 3-D wasn’t really needed, but whatever, I loved it.

I didn’t have many expectations walking in… and I loved this movie!! The animation (or whatever you would call it, since it looks pretty freaking life-like) was really amazing. This movie was really something new in terms of animation. In terms of plotline, it was nothing new, but it was still really well executed. I definitely got into the story. If you want an artsy movie with tons of character development and deep meaning, then maybe this isn’t the movie for you, but if you’re looking for a fun movie that uses all kinds of special effects that you’ve never seen before, then definitely go running to your local movie theater 🙂

FI and I just got home from seeing Avatar, and it was EVERYTHING it’s been hyped up to be. I didn’t even want to go see it, but I figured since it’s ‘supposed’ to be an epic movie, I’d regret not seeing it in 3D on the big screen.
The story is incredibly compelling, and rich. I’d recommend it to anyone!
