Forgive me if this gets all after-school special in a second.
I just want to say thanks to everyone – mods, admins, IT, and bees. I don’t contribute a whole lot (haven’t replied to a few posts I’ve started) but you better believe I’m here on a daily basis. Yes, there are petty fights every now and then. Yes, there is the occasional troll/negative Nelly. And yes, it’s not perfect…. but you know what? It’s pretty darn nice here. I have never seen an online community with such a level of positivity. Some may argue real opinions don’t get expressed and while I have thought the same thing a few times, I do see it really as more of pointing out the positives and not commenting on the negatives. Advice and the necessary “tough love” is abundant here and it’s truly a great community.
The additions of the new boards is just freakin’ BRILLIANT, too. IT support has also gotten a lot better (it was touch-and-go for a while there). I see effort in streamlining the rules about posting and after a few upheavals, response times have dramatically improved. Again, not every little thing is perfect but the willingness to work to make things better for everyone is rather apparent to me and that is quite respectable in my book.
Once more, I know it’s not perfect but I really, really enjoy it here. I was helped so much through my waiting and then planning process …and then when it all fell to crap and was canceled, I was helped then, too. It sounds mushy but there are a few of you whose stories I follow… and honestly, sometimes I am in tears with how happy (sometimes sad) some of you are… from waiting to engagement to planning/recaps to POAS and BFP’s (and losses) to home-building/buying and newlywed adjustments.
I know it may sound silly since it’s “just” an online community, but this has been my voice many, many times when I have had no one to listen to me and I’m sure others feel the same way. Even if I don’t post, I often feel validated, encouraged, or calmed down by searching and reading other posts. We really are very similar in our own little ways.
There are Christmas card/note swaps, costume contests, fitness, and parenting boards. This is so much more than a wedding site. The general theme of camaraderie is very heartwarming…. even if this does sound like a creepy, lame-o post.
Okay, all done! Looks like I should buy chocolate more often – apparently it does wonders for my mood. 🙂
