DH and I just bought our forever home! That’s the good news. The bad news is that I can’t sell my house that I currently own and I need to rent it out.
I have a few people coming this weekend to look at the house. My house is fairly small, they’re not going to get lost. Should I just welcome them in and let them walk around themselves? I feel that it might be awkward if I take them on a tour.
I’m thinking of the HGTV show “Property Virgins” where the realtor lets the buyer walk through the house on their own (the realtor isn’t tagging along and hovering over them).
What do you guys think? Show them around or let them walk around the house on their own?

Let them walk around alone, be friendly offer to answer any questions but that’s it!
ETA-is the house empty?

I’m paranoid, so I would give them a tour and make sure they don’t steal anything. You just never know! (Assuming these people are strangers, of course). Every house I’ve ever looked at, whether when we were renting or looking to buy, we’ve had a guided tour, even if it’s a smaller place.

Also, more importantly, CONGRATS ON THE HOUSE! 🙂 That’s super exciting.

Show them around. The difference between you and Property Virgins is that the show has liability insurance for things that might get stolen when you are not looking.
Either that, or put everything valuable somewhere off site till you sell your house.

@axeyourmakeupkit: No, my house is furnished. But I really don’t have anything of value.

definitely pack away your valuables before they come. i guess you can just let them tour it themselves if you want. you said it was fairly small.
i sold my house last year on my own and i showed them around first (it was a large home) and answered any questions they had about certain things and then i let them wander around on their own. they bought it in less than 24 hours.
congrats on your new dream house!!
