Everything is pretty much falling together for me, as well. We were originally going to have the wedding at FI’s uncle’s resort up north, but we’d have to literally rent everything, and being where it is (in the area voted the Most Beautiful Place in America by Good Morning America), the prices of things are outrageous. We ended up doing it here (where we live) instead. The photographer I found like six months before we were even engaged, and she turned out to be amazing and fun. The reception venue we found right away (and it’s almost all-inclusive, so I don’t have to deal with another 15 vendors). The ceremony venue took a bit longer, but we found one that’s pretty and cheap. The officiants we found are great. My cousin offered to make our cake (cupcakes). I found my dress the first shopping trip we took, at the first shop we went to, and it fits perfectly from the designer except for a bit of hemming. I designed our save the dates (and other parts of the invitation suite), and they turned out great, and I got them printed for really cheap.

Honestly, the biggest problems we’ve had have been the lady who books the ceremony site was a pain in the ass (but she works for the city government, so what do you expect), and the bridesmaids dresses are proving to be a huge pain.

We’ve been engaged since February and all of our big stuff is done, it’s just the DIY projects that I need to worry about now.

I think for everyone there’s probably a little uncertainty in the planning, especially with a long engagement, but as you get everything together, it certainly all falls into place because you’ve already done it!!

I’m just proud of getting all the big stuff figured out really early on.  I can’t say I got the best deals LoL, but I do feel like I’m going to be working with the best vendors, and I’m really happy that FI has made a lot of big decisions with me so I think he will be happy with everything and everyone as well!

This is a perfect post for how I am feeling right now too. We just had our tasting and while there was able to see the venue set up for a wedding that evening. I really felt like everything was coming together, it just felt right and the food was amazing. Plus we can customize the sauces the chef uses and the sides we want with each choice.

@sherryberry: That is great everything is working out for your planning and also that you are under budget. That is always a plus 🙂 Just make sure to keep some cushion room in case things come up. We had a few things recently that we weren’t expecting but I am glad we had extra money in our budget because we were able to do all the things we wanted without going over.

Hit our first snag yesterday. Our reception venue got a new coordinator, P. Our previous one, L, is doing strictly corporate events now, but the email assured us that she would share everything we’ve discussed so far with P. Too bad that when I emailed P, it became pretty clear that this hasn’t happened. I don’t expect them to sit down and have a meeting over it, but forwarding our emails would help.

– I’ve already given them a floorplan; P linked me to their floorplan site and told me to “play around” with it.

– P asked for dates that would be good for us in January/February to do our tasting; we’ve already done a tasting. We wanted to do another, yes, but she obviously doesn’t know that we’ve already done one. She also expects me to take time off work to do one, since their office hours are my same office hours.

– I doubt she knows that L agreed to give us the 2012 Friday minimum.

– She told me that they don’t have a signed Deposit Agreement from us?! I have a hard copy and an email of my sending it in April. The one she sent me to sign looks different, but it’s essentially the same document. If they made a new one, L probably should have told me that. :

I’m trying to be cool because we’re still 10 months out, but it’s a little frustrating when I thought this was already done.

@vorpalette: I am sorry to hear that! I am sure she will catch up to speed with your information, it takes time when you take over a new job espeically with one like that with many different brides. Maybe it would be good to set up an in person meeting with her to go over everything that you and L had already discussed. I know with our venue we met with M for the basic stuff and she had said a few things to us that our planner J was different and we just explained M said this and she honored everything. So don’t worry just yet, try to be open minded, P might be even better 🙂

The biggest problem with that is, like I said, their office hours are the same as what I work, and I can’t just take time off to go meet with her. I figured email would be okay, since I can do that during the day. Saturdays are good for me, but may or may not be good for them (if they have a function going on or something). This is part of the reason that I ultimately didn’t apply to this job (I saw the posting), actually.

@sherryberry:  Wow you got some amazin deals. OMG. And I thought I ot amazing deals but $3000 for venue and catering for 75… how did you manage that.  I could not find any caterers for less than $I000 bucks for I50 people. (sorry using the I key for the one since my one isn’t working).

Anyway, things are falling into place for us as well… I am having a lot of fun with planning and look forward the day which is in less than 2 months *sqeal*

  • Wedding: December 2013

mine is pretty easy sailing so far!

having a looong engagement is great for this. especially when i’m across the country from my venue.

i’ve already got my 2 photographers and videographer booked and paid. i’ve paid the deposit on my venue. i purchased my dress, veil, shoes, and accessories. my save the dates are completed and ready to mail, i’m just waiting until this december to send them.

so far so good…although i imagine it will be SO stressful as the date gets closer and closer, especially because of how far away i am!
