If the photos come out bad, or not the way you were thinking, it’s going to be a bigger deal for you than you think. I strongly advise against having a co-worker or friend take your photos. It will totally strain your relationship (on your end) if they are not what you expect. You would be better off finding someone on craigslist or ask one of your clients who come in to see if they recommend anyone for shooting only and then handing over the film or raw files.

I’d take a chance with the colleague – there’s a good chance I’ll be doing the same for our wedding photos.

I’m not sure what you’re going for with the anniversary, is it a big one/renewal of vows or something like that? I’m usually perfectly happy with the photos my friends take (and they’re by no means strong photographers) so if you’re colleague’s a good photographer why not try it out? More info would probably be helpful for other commenters though.
