I not from your area so I don’t have a recommendation- but definitly keep looking!  I’m paying $150 for all my alterations (taking in, hem and bustle) so that much for just the bustle is crazy! Hopefully another bee will have some ideas for your area.

I haven’t actually gotten my alterations done yet, but I’ve scheduled an appointment with Mary Catomy (you can find her on yelp and other review sites), she’s located in Schiller Park, she’s got nothing but positive reviews (all the neg reviews I saw were people who weren’t able to get an appointment) and people say she’s very reasonably priced.  Call her right away if you’re interested though, she books up fast!  I called a few weeks ago to get on her books; if she can fit you in, she’ll write your name in to guarantee your spot in her schedule and then the actual alterations process happens 3-4 months before your wedding.

If the Villa Park area works for you, I know a seamstress.

Sylvia Tailor in Arlington Heights. She took my 4 sizes too small dress and added a corset back that looks like it came with the dress. I almost cried when I saw it, I was so amazed at how great of a job she did. She matched the color of the dress perfectly and her sewing work is perfect. She also did a BM dress for another wedding I was in, and it fit perfectly. I can’t recommend her enough! And she’s really sweet and has been so patient teaching my sister how to bustle it 🙂

Oh, and Sylvia’s alterations to hem and bustle my dress were $120 total. My corset back, cups, and straps were another $100 I think.

I heard about Mary too! I just called on Thursday to get my name written down so I can get a garunteed appointment. Several other bees on the website mentioned her too. Apparently she is awesome! 🙂 And reasonably priced. I’ve hear figures like $200 for a bustle and getting the dress taken in a lot. Good luck! Call soon!

I called Mary and she quoted me $300 for a bustle, taking in, and hem.  Seems like a lot to me for someone that works out of her home.  The bridal salon was only asking for $350.
