Yes, mine does! My grandfather was hit and killed by a drunk driver, and he didn’t have a seat belt (it was before they were available in most cars) – so it’s of utmost importance to me. I’m just upfront about that. It doesn’t just affect the person not wearing the seat belt, it affects anyone who loves that person.

Little known statistical fact, but most injury accidents happen within a five mile radius of home.  That is exactly the time to have the seatbelt on!

It’s the law here, and I would never even consider not wearing a seatbelt. My FI always wears his too. It’s just common sense in my opinion. Like Mrs. DG said, a lot of accidents happen close to home. There was on in the news here recently where the woman died and was 2 blocks from her house. It can happen anywhere!

I feel the same way about people who ride bikes and especially motorcycles without helmets. I mean, why take the risk?

My husband and I both wear ours, thank goodness, but my FIL never wears his. It drives me insane. If I’m driving, I make him put it on. I don’t want to be responsible for him getting injured on my watch!

And great stat Mrs. DG! That’s why, even if I’m just going around the block for something, seatbelt is always on. You just never know.

I blame my car and say the annoying alarm will go off if the seatbelts aren’t fastened 🙂

As far as advice, I’m not really sure… it’s too bad it wasn’t illegal where you are! Then there’s always the threat of a ticket. I think it’s a pretty big fine here.

I would say I “always” wear mine (even when i’m going from one store to another in a parking lot… feels like tempting fate not to), but sometimes if someone else is driving I wait until we’re going to put it on. Like going for less than 1 minute. FI however is a freakin psycho about it and will literally not pull down the driveway unless i put mine on haha.

I used to be terrible about never wearing my seatbelt unless I was on a long road trip and this was mainly due to the fact that I go to school in a small town where the speed limit NEVER gets onver 30-40, unless you get on the highway and thats only 55, and nobody here wears on, cops dont care. I got out of the habit of wearing one and seriously dont even think about.

My FI always wears one and would get on to me about it and if he reminded me, then I would. I didnt care about putting one on, I just never thought about it. When he deployed he made me promise to wear one and I promised and do EVERY SINGLE TIME because I promised. I know it really meant a lot to him that I did so I do.

Ha I know this is like best case scenario. Have you tried telling your FI that it bothers you and that youre just concerned for his safety? And I agree, my car beeping and telling me that I’m not wearing one gets annoying so I end up putting it on to shut it up!

I always wear one except if I am backing out I cannot stand to have it on, my mom is the same way and it drives (haha) my FI crazy!

@ Blondee: why does he say he doesn’t like to wear it? Is it uncomfortable? Does he forget?

I look at it this way: buckling up is one incredibly easy, absolutely free thing that I can do to reduce the degree of injury I would receive from a pretty common event. If someone told you that you face a risk of moderate to serious injury every single day, but that you could greatly reduce that risk of injury with a piece of equipment you already own, AND it would only take about 5 seconds each time to properly use that equipment, AND the equipment is already installed so you can use it right away, you would use that equipment, RIGHT? I think men respond to logic relatively well. Try that.
