SO and I are heading to Slovenia for a holiday this August, staying in Lake Bled. Just wondered if anyone is from Slovenia or has been there, and has any recommendations of things to do or particular palces to visit? We will have a hire car so can go a little further and are going for 9 nights. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Slovenia is beautiful! Just a warning though-Lake Bled is VERY touristy so in August it will probably be packed. I will there in late November and there were still plenty of people around. But geez I don’t think I ever saw such clear lake water in my life…I don’t know how they keep it so clean with all the tourist but they are obviously doing something right.
There’s another lake (like 45 minutes away from Lake Bled, don’t remember the name) and it’s supposed to be even more beautiful-very rugged and rustic. And you MUST have some cream cake!
Ljubliana is a lovely small city, but it can easily be done in a day. Lake Bled and Ljubliana were the only two places I made it to when I was there, but it sounds like there’s lots more to see.
There’s a small section of the Adriatic Coast-I remember Piran seemed like a beautiful coastal town. Then there’s caves in the south and wine-growing areas in the east.
Plus, Slovenia is so small that you also have good access to Northeast Italy, Northern Croatia and Southern Austria.
If I’m able to transfer my pictures, I’ll try to post some.
Gah, I’m jealous now.

@worldtraveler: Ah brilliant, thank you very much! We’re considering hopping over the border to Austria and visiting Klagenfurt. I’ll have to try and find out the name of this other lake as it sounds lovely! The caves sound cool too, I’ll look into those.
