I've used the listerine whitening rinse and crest 3D toothpaste and I noticed a big difference in a week of using them. I've also used the whitening strips along time ago and they worked really well too. So I would vote to try that first because it's way cheaper.
I don't have stained teeth or anything too bad...just tend to be a little on the offwhite side. I swear by the Crest Whitening Strips...I don't use them all year round but will start using them before upcoming events (visiting family, holidays, whatever) and EVERYTIME I use them I get compliments on how white my teeth are. I've argued with strangers about the fact that I do in fact smoke, people never believe that I'm a smoker or a coffee drinker because my teeth are so white. I notice a huge different after just a few days of using them everyday. It's so worth a try, if they don't work for you, you're only out 30 bucks.
Before the wedding I bought the kit with the light at Target for $40. It seriously worked, really well.

its $120 bucks but its worth every penny! You may be able to find it somewhere cheaper at a different site, I bought mine from Sephora
@Lindsay12.31.2010:what is the kit with the light? and how much is it/where do you get it?
My dentist told me that the professional white strips by crest worked just as well as the laser/gel treatment they just took some patience and practice and the results lasted just as long.
I am told by everyone that I have very white teeth (my natural tooth color was kind of apple-y before I bleached) and I only use the strips.
So it is a matter of cost vs convenience
Oh and to keep them white I use the listerine whitening every day
and then I brush
and then I rinse with the blue listerine - I have the healthiest mouth according to my dentist

I love, love, love White Strips and definitely recommend this to all my bridal clients who are looking to get whiter teeth before their big day.
Crest recently came out with a 2-Hour Express formula, I haven't tried it yet but I stand by their other teeth whitening products, so I'm fairly sure this will work pretty well too. You can find out more about that here.
Another product from the same line that I love is the Advanced Vivid Toothpaste. It really keeps my teeth sparkly white, even after I've stopped using whitestrips (:

Now my teeth aren't very discolored, but they could be just a little bit whiter. Back in the day I had a friend in high school who had her teeth professionally whitened at the dentist. This was over 10 years ago and it was around $800. This is through the use of peroxide gel applied to the teeth. On average it is about $650 for this treatment. One, dentists sceeve me out to begin with and two, who has an extra $600 to splurge on around your wedding? Not me?
Another option could be professional take home whitening kits. These are given to you by your dentist, and use a lower concentration of peroxide than you would get at the dentist's office, and remains on your teeth longer. These usually range in the $100 to $400 range. negative of this, you use a sort of mouth guard contraption to keep the gel on your teeth. Some people leave it in over night...I can't see this being comfortable.
My other option is to go the over the counter route and purchase products like mouth wash, tooth paste, and whitening strips.
What over the counter products seemed to work the best for everyone? Or did you use a combination?
