So, my dr confirmed today that I’m A- blood type. I know all about the RH stuff, and that I’ll likely need to get a shot, etc.
But she said to me, you need to call me immediately if you have any spotting, especially because you’re A-.
Why especially since I’m A-? is it because if I’m spotting, my blood and the baby’s blood could mix?

@anotherbee: I happened to be browsing the pregnancy boards and this caught my eye as I am also A- blood type. I think you are right about why you would need to inform your doctor of any spotting, if the two bloods mix your body can start to produce antibodies.
I googled and found this site: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/rhfactor.html
So I assume if you are spotting they would want to give you the shot early to keep your body from producing the antibodies. Otherwise I think you can wait until the 28 week mark to get it. I assume your husband is RH positive? As I understand if the mother and father are both RH negative there is no need for concern as the baby would inherit the negative RH as well.
I hope you have a healthy and stress-free pregnancy! I was so excited for you on the TTC boards when I saw your news. 🙂

Thanks ladies, I understand all about RH factor as I knew I was – going into this. I jsut wasn’t sure why she specifically said that if I was spotting I had to call immedateily, and what that had to do with my blood type. I’m assuming its cause the blood could mix.
We aren’t sure what DH’s blood type is.
