I think donating to the humane society is a great way to go. Help those who cannot help themselves, and doing it in your guests' honor. =)
Definitely go with it! If you send it in advance, maybe the director at the shelter can write a thank you letter. You could have it framed on a table at the reception, so the guests are aware of your donation in their honor. Just an idea!

thanks everyone! My FSIL made a donation in honor of my ferret Rocky when he passed away and they sent me a beautiful hand written card. I was thinking of doing what miss pinot grigio mentioned and to tie it all together I'd decorate a picture frame with wine corks!

So, we're doing the little bottle of wine with a personalized label and all as a favor to our guests... the kids will be getting empty wine bottles filled with personalized m&m's
Fiance and I are very big animal lovers as is EVERYONE in our family. So I thought it would be nice to donate a dollar to the local humane society for every one of our guests and print a little card that says something about "a favor to you is a favor to them" :-)
