You definitely want to check out the DJ Solution (www.thedjsolution.com). Steph and Jeff are a young husband and wife tag team and they rock....no cheese. You'll see other great reviews off them on this board. Good luck!
I second the DJ Solution, and also reccomend Carol Moore with A Starry Night DJs for excellent non cheesy music.
I 3rd The DJ Solution. If you look on this board, there are loads of rave reviews about them.
They DJed my cousin's wedding in 2006, my sister's in 2007, and mine last year. We didn't even audition or shop around. They had done such a great job, that they were the first call we made and the first vendor we booked (after the venue!).
Completely avoid Rick Zolzer from Zolz Entertainment. I thought he'd be professional because he's well known in the area, but he has a huge ego. Long story short, he gave us an ultimatum 30 minutes before our reception. We had to sign something that said if his equipment blew during the event we would pay for it. Marrying a lawyer that was not going to happen so he walked. Our venue had to find another DJ in town (someone with an extensive itunes collection and an amp!) and we had to delay the reception a half hour.
I am booking with Lucky In Love DJs for our 10/2010 wedding. Husband and Wife team, Marist College grads.....GREAT first impression!!!
I am using Ryan from the DJ Company. We really liked his personality and the prices were very reasonable. We are also using them for lighting and Ryan was very willing to work with us to achieve our vision.
We used Jay and Christine from " Hudson Valley Dj of Dutchess County " in 2008 for our wedding and my daughter liked him as well, so I am using him again for my daughter's Sweet 16. They planned the whole event with us beforehand and kept things going nicely through the whole reception. We requested some of the fun party songs but my family is crazy when it comes to any type of party. I'm sure he will not play anything that you don't want him to play. We liked the way he choreographed our introductions with music, so my daughter is doing the same for her candlelighting ceremony. Good Luck!
hi bees!
any suggestions for a dj with a WIDE spectrum of music? FH and I are dominican so our families will need tonssss of spanish music, but i love kesha/brit/cher and he loves rap/hip-hop so we really need the dj to have just about every music genre covered.
we definitely want a fun, hip dj as well - nothing cheesy.

Hi all :) I was an HV resident going on 10 years who moved away and met my fi across the country, and now I'm getting married back there in 2010. I'm looking for a DJ for the reception, and I keep having PTSD flashbacks to the horrible HORRIBLE dj who did my sweet 16. I don't even remember the guy's name but I clearly remember my friends *walking out* because the dj sucked.
SO....I'm having a small wedding in a beautiful little hotel and I want a great DJ. Its an intimate cocktail style reception but we're a young couple so we want to music to be danceable. I know what I *don't* want: None of the glowsticks, and no inflatable guitars, no YMCA...none of that kitschy bs...we're adults and I don't want the reception to be treated like a sweet 16. That said, I want the music to be hip and current, and to progress as the night goes on to a vibe almost like a dance club in the city...
Anybody have any suggestions? I'm at a loss, and while my parents are in the HV they are going to be absolutely no help (lol they hired that guy for my sweet 16 :P ). I really appreciate it!
