OOOhhh, no we haven't but that is our DREAM honeymoon.
Ours will be in October, so too late in the cruise season :(
I've heard from several friends it is amazing. I would defintiely do it!
I went on an Alaskan cruise this last September and I loved it! My suggestion is that if you can swing purchasing some shore excursions on each of your cruise stops, it is totally worth it. The excursions were the best part of the trip. Unfortunately if you don't choose to do some type of excursion, you are pretty much just stuck at the docking area for the cruise ship with a ton of touristy souvenir shops.
I've been dying to see Alaska. Unfortunately, it's REALLY expensive to fly there from the east coast. And everyone says that the best way to see it is to take a cruise, but I kind of hate cruises.
im so excited to go... as much as i wanted to go back to italy, i figured it could have been a hell of a trip since you can not really see too much in a week or two.. and i really didnt want to spend one or two days only in each cities considerating that we would have spent lots of hours in the train since it is the best way to move in italy from one town to another.... so the cruise is the only relaxing option we had..
@ tulip61110-im planning to go for 2-3 excursions a day!!! im definitely going to see the dog sledding ( I LOVE ANIMALS)
I would love to go to Alaska either on a cruise or just in general!! I think youll have an awesome honeymoon!!!
ouch... i just realized that i didnt express myself too well...my english is not too great.. sorry but im at work right now and i cant really function when i have people talking to me and the phone ringing, but i hope you got what i was trying to say :P
Don't worry - we understood you perfectly. The trip sounds amazing, and I hope you have a great time!
We are going to Alaska for our honeymoon, but aren't doing the cruise. We are starting in Anchorage and ending in Fairbanks, and driving or taking the railroad to get around. We are outdoorsy people so are going kayaking, fishing, hiking, etc. Also mixing luxury resorts with cabins along the way. Best part was I managed to get the airline tickets with my frequest flyer miles- score! So excited!
my then-boyfriend (now fiance) and i went to alaska just before labor day in 2008. it was the most amazing trip. we didn't do a cruise but went to anchorage (hiked Flat Top "mountain"), seward (whale watching) and up to denali national park. we did a ton of hiking. we also saw a visited a few glaciers, watched salmon trying to go upstream and tried panning for gold. i hope you have a wonderful trip!
Before you go, go to a website like Tripadvisor or Frommers where they have forums. Reserach shore excursions and the companies that provide them. Post a request for recommendations.
You wil save mega dollars by booking your shore excursions yourself rather than through the cruise line.
One thing to be very careful of however: ensure that you leave lots of time to arrive back at the ship before departure. They will NOT wait for you and it can be very expensive to catch up to the ship at the next port.
I am going there! I have been on an Alaskan cruise which was AMAZING but for our honeymoon we are going to do a lot of camping/backpacking combined with a few nights in cabins/hotels. We are going to hit up Anchorage, Girwood, Cooper Landing and Spencer glacier and will be traveling by bus, train, and float place. sooo excited!
Awesome!!!! im not an outdoor person though..i like nature but not to the point to sleep outside! i need my bathroom, blow dryer curling iron and all those nice stuff!!! lol
i cant wait to go!
@julies1949--thanks for the tip..the excursions are VERY expensive..i will check on that
No I've never been! But I WOULD love to gone one day!! I think it will be SO beautiful and romantic!!!
You can rent a beautiful cabin in the forest and snuggle up in front of the fireplace!!
Ahhh there was this wonderful cabin I saw a while back on some travel blog but I can't think of the name now!!
I second the recommendation to book your excursions from independent companies rather than the cruise line. The cruise line's excursions are much more expensive. We used Expedia to book our excursions. If you want more info you can PM me and I can let you know what excursions we did and how it was. There was pretty much only one where I felt like it wasn't worth the money we spent for it.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
what do you think of a honeymoon to Alaska???
even though i wanted to go to italy and take my FI to my hometown, we had to choose for "in the states" trip...unfortunately we are in a tight budget and we choose for a cruise to Alaska since we both have never been there and we can not stand sand and heat (sorry i dont like the beach at all considerating that i am a ginger, as my lil sis in law loves to call me, and i burn really easily).. i figured it could be a lot of fun exploring something new and then we will have all the comforts of a cruise..
have any of you ever been to Alaska before???
