Ok, firstly sorry about the long story.. But here goes.
In June my brother was in a major car accident, leaving in hospital for what ended up as almost 6 months. At the time, I was living 3 hours away from my family. So one weekend I said to mum we should go looking for dresses, so we did whilst my brother went into surgery( just another clean out- 3 hours). So went to two shops up town and tried on ten or so dresses(all the available dresses in a size 16/18 :/) and didnt really like any. Then we went to the place I got my current dress from.
They only offered me two dresses to look at, which I thought was a bit odd to start with.. Anyways try on the first dress. which was a beachy style dress. not what I wanted. Then tried on the dress I ended up getting, the henri josef 70550. You can see it in an olive colour here: http://shop.soddress.com/product.php?productid=21533&js=n
Anyways, when I walked out in it I thought it was pretty. A nice dress, but it wasnt the one.. So the assistant left me to talk to mum, and mum did the typical “You look gorgeous. Its beautiful. etc.” But i said to mum that its nice but not the one. The assistant came back and put a veil on me and mum lost it and started crying. I said again that it is nice, and I like it but I want to think about it. The assistant then says that its the last one as its a end of run clearance dress and that the lace crystal stuff itself is so expensive and that the lace itself pays for the dress.
Anyways, I go back into the dressing room to get dressed, and I come out and to my surprise/horror/dismay the assitant is swiping mums card in the eftpos machine and giving her a receipt.
Apparently, the assistant had convinced mum I loved it. More like wanted the sale.. So because it was such an emotional and big time in our lives I just dont know how to tell mum about it, or even how to approach it. I have tried a few times, like looking online at dresses and saying “oh wow, that a really really lovely dress” mum usually responds with ‘but you’ve got one. no need to keep looking’ Please help me bees. How do I approach this very fragile conversation? And also, should I look for a new dress? Or keep mine?
PS I must also add that the dress bought was 2 sizes too big to start with, and Ive since lost a little weight also. So now Im worried it wont even fit.
And I have checked my stores policy, they wont refund/swap. If I cancel the dress they keep everything Ive paid so far which is approx 80%
