I am reminded so often of why I picked my man.
This weekend was tough. My family dog got hit by a car and did not make it 🙁
Just by chance my FI happened to be driving by my parents’ place when he saw something on the side of the road. He realized what it was and called me right away.
The poor baby was gone 🙁 My FI went to my parents’ place to deliver the bad news. My FI helped my Dad get the dog and bury him (they live in the country). My brother lives about 40 minutes away but could not come to help because it was too difficult for him. Nobody likes to do these things but I was so proud and gratful for my man.
He did so well and my entire family love him even more now. They were so appreciative of him.
I guess the purpose of this post is to show some appreciation for him. My family has loved him from day 1 and I am so happy for that. I am a lucky girl.
Feel free to share your stories about your wonderful guy, too 🙂
RIP buddy. You will be missed.

That’s so very sweet of your fi. I’m so sorry that happened to your family pet.
My fi buried a few of the original hermit crabs I got [they were from a game at a fair, I didn’t realize what horrible conditions they were subject to at the time], I always wanted a hermit crab when I was little but my parents never gave me one. So he won me a couple, but they died within a day or so.
He then purchased me a HUGE tank and more hermit crabs and everything else I could need for them [water conditioner, salt water, sand, toys, heat lamps, ect]. I’ve had them for 8 months and they are the sweetest things!

@CarterLove: What a sweetheart!
FI and I had been dating about 7 months or so at the time (we’ve been together for more than 6 years now). My younger sister came up to visit everyone at college (my older sister, her FI, my FI, and I all were attending the same college) and told us that the family dog, who was 10 at the time, was not doing well and that our parents had made an appointment for the next day to have himput to sleep – he had hip displasia and other health problems. We all adored that dog, he was such a sweetheart.
FI offered to drive me the hour home so I could say goodbye, but I couldn’t because we had homework and tests and all that stuff. So he spent the afternoon letting me cry on his shoulder. And he let me cry on him for pretty much the entire weekend after he passed (he died peacefully at home, in my parents’ arms, the night before the appointment).
And he also held my hair as I puked my brains out at the Hospital, at midnight, that same year. That story is really gross though.

In 2009 I had a terrible food poisoning episode abroad and since then I have a ridiculous amount of upper-digestive issues. I burp/vomit a lot and often can’t lay down flat without spitting up. Since I got sick, my FI will wake up to find me trying to sleep sitting up, he’ll sit up against the headboard with his legs spread, pull me in between them and we fall asleep with me leaning back on his chest. He has also had to pull over on many a highway for me to throw up and when I’m sad about it he tells me “I’ll always be attracted to you – I’ll sleep with you right now if you need me to prove it to you.” It always makes me laugh. I love that we’ve lived the “sickness and health” vow before we even say it.
