I think guests kind of like it when you cry, lol. I know when the bride or groom cries at a wedding, I instantly get choked up too!
I'm in the process of writing my vows and I'm stuck... it's hard to put it down on paper, y'know?
@deathbydesign: SO hard! I guess I just have a hard time verbalizing my feelings--at least into words I feel comfortable with. FI is actually really poetic, so I know his vows will be real "flowery" if you know what I mean. That kind of puts a little pressure on me.
I'm in the same boat! I've been working on mine, and I get all teary while I am doing it. Ugh...
Honestly, our officiant told us to google wedding vows, read a whole bunch to get ideas, and take a line from here and a line from there to make them our own (there are only so many ways you ca string words together, chances are Google has all of them!). In our house, FI isn't the wordy one, so he's a bit freaked about writing his. I told him google was fine as long as what he copied he meant! He just isn't the type to be able to put his feeling into words without help lol!
@Take The Reins: Wow, that's a great idea!! Thank you! I'm so going to do this! :)
My FI is a great talker and has a great sense of humor...me, however, I get choked up and cry at everything lol. I think we will go with a bit of both sweet and funny in our vows. I'm excited to start writing them! Our wedding is next June so I have over a year, but it will be nice to get a base and go from there! Good luck and happy writing :)

Hi Bees, so of course I did a WB search about "writing own vows" and came up with some good topics about whether to write them or not to write them...
However, that's not my problem. We have decided to write our own vows because to us it seems more personal. Also, not a BIG reason to my decision (but kind of) him and his ex-wife wrote their own vows. FI is expressive, as well as a natural writer, so I know doing traditional vows will be settling for him.
Me however, I'm a crier. I get choked up just talking about my feelings and while it doesn't bother me around him, it's saying my feelings in front of everyone else that bothers me. Not that I have a problem publicly displaying my love for him, it's the CRYING part that will most definitely come along with it. I get a little embarrassed.
I was just wondering how it went when you said your own vows. Did you cry, did you laugh? Did you make it sentimental or lighthearted? Also, if anyone would like to share (i know it's personal) I would love to read your vows. I'd just like to get an idea of how to go about it. I could just make a list of all the reasons I love him, but I'd like it to be a little more personal than that.
I just need a little guidance. lol :)
