With the abreva, here are things that have helped me surpress a cold sore:
1. Timing is of the essence. You MUST get it IMMEDIATELY when it starts tingling. I have been known to hit a 24-hour-pharmacy at 1am if I feel it coming on and have some sort of event for which I CANNOT have a cold sore.
2. I screw the box directions (apply once every 2 hours?) and do it like, every half hour. I'll put it on again if I wake up in the middle of the night. Use a clean q-tip every time so you don't recontaminate areas on your lips or transfer the virus back to the medication tube.
3. I take a lot of lysine. Like 9 pills a day.
4. If the cold sore erupts, I'd probably be honest with the makeup artist and call them ahead of time to tell them. I'm sure most professionals have delt with this kind of thing before, but they'll appreciate the courtesy before they show up and know to have extra disposables and to wash their hands immediately after working with you.
Good luck! I feel for you--they're so not fun.
@JennyW1: Thanks for your advice. it made me laugh when you mentioned the Q tips, that is exactly what I do and i go through so many Q tips.
I got up and there was nothing there and no more tingling. I think I will keep up with the tons of lysine (I started taking it a few days ago, but just a couple tabs a day) until the wedding is here.

So Thursday I got an email that my ranunculus are not going to be available, and I need to pick an alternate flower. It has taken 2 days and things are still not 100% straightened out.
I have felt like I am getting a cold sore all day. Started my Valtrex and lysine. I even put abreva on the area. I reallly hope I started the med soon enough. I really don't want a cold sore on my wedding day:(
Any other usefull ideas to help stop it?
