MRS-K:  have you had sex recently? Spotting durning pregnancy is pretty common. I had blood early on, on two occasions- both after I sneezed to hard. The fact that you didn’t notice any today sounds pretty promising that it’s just things stretching out

I had spotting on and off throughout most of my first trimester – I think my last bit was around 9-10 weeks.  I would definitely call and talk to your doctor, but they will likely tell you that a little spotting is nothing to worry about.  Heavy bleeding (soaking a pad/hour or more) and cramping are when you should worry.  It’s so hard not to worry any time you see blood (and I totally get it!), but try to just monitor it and if it stays just a little bit, it’s probably nothing.  For more peace of mind, though, you could ask your doctor for bloodwork.  I had my blood drawn to test my hCG and progesterone after my spotting (and repeated 48 hours later to make sure it was increasing as it should), and I also had an early ultrasound (around 6 weeks) just to make sure it wasn’t ectopic.  That was just to rule out possible problems, but all through that my doctor and nurses kept reassuring me that a little bleeding during the first trimester is actually very, very common.

Likewise, I had bleeding at week 10 and week 13.  Week 10 was actually what seemed like a “gush” of bright red blood out of nowhere.  Not enough to soak a pad, but enough to cover the toilet paper when I wiped.  For the next day, I had just a little bit of light  brown spotting.  In the end, everything was fine, and they really had no explanation for the bleeding.  At week 13, I think I overdid it by attending a really long, all-day event.  I didn’t have much blood, perhaps two large quarter sized drops of gel-like blood, followed by light spotting. Doctor said just take it easy for a few days, and again, all was well.  (I also wondered if in addition to “overdoing it”, the bleeding may have been hormonal because I also vomited tons that week and felt extremely fatigued for 4-5 days.)

As hard as it may be please try and remain positive. Spotting can be completely normal in the first trimester.

I had bleeding in my 6th 8th 13th and 16th week of pregnancy. After seeing my midwife I was told it was likely hormonal and these were pretty much the times I would have been expected to be on my period. I also had a sensitive cervix and sneezing coughing or overdoing it slightly resulted in spotting. The blood was only from my cervix though but was bright red.

The midwife told me to try not to worry unless i was soaking through 1-2 pads an hours during the first 12 weeks. My bleeding was more significant that spotting on most of the occassions but only lasted a day or two each time. I now have an 18 month old daughter.

It is very common to spot in early pregnancy. A little tiny bit of watery pink is nothing to be concerned about. If you continue to spot, definitely check with your doctor. I had more than that and it turned out I had low progesterone so I was put on supplements for the first trimester. I’m 23.5 weeks and doing great. Congratulations and good luck!!

MRS-K:  The worry you are feeling is totally normal but chances are that you and baby are fine.

A couple of weeks ago, I had brown spotting for 3-4 days at 15 weeks but only when I wiped. I drove myself batty thinking I’d had a miscarriage or was about to have one. I even unsubscribed from all my pregnancy related groups so I wouldn’t have to deal if anything happened. I couldn’t relax until I heard baby’s heartbeat and tbh, my doc was totally casual saying that it can be normal or at least ok at any point in pregnancy.

DH, my sister, SIL, MIL (i was at their home visiting over thanksgiving when it happened) and my sis all knew it was OK but I was terrified b/c my symptoms seemed to disappear. I had zero spotting with DD other than IB before I knew I was pregnant. Turns out the spotting coincided with the lessening of symptoms during 2nd trimester…

Kudos to you for reaching out, I hope it passes and that all is okay with you and baby. If anything, it helped me see just how badly I wanted and already loved this lil blueberry (badly timed surprise bfp!).
