Last year my company (FI and I work for the same company) started a mandatory wellness screening and it identified a risk factor for diabetes for my FI.
So started a low carb diet for him to help possibly control
His fasting glucose was the same as last year but both years it was 99 which is in the healthy range though high
HOWEVER all of his other numbers were improved
his weight decreased 5lbs, his body fat decreased by 2% but his waist size stayed the same indicating an increased muscle mass in that region (he has a 33″ waist so it did not need to be much trimmer)
his blood pressure went down from 133/73 to 120/72
His total cholesterol stayed the same but his HDL (the good cholesterol) went from 51 to 72 his ratio went from 4.5 down to 2.9
I have followed a mostly low carb regime for a few years now and so it is hard for me to say was I healthy naturally or due to the diet. I thought his numbers really stood out and thought I would share if you had concerns about cutting out refined sugar and starches.
We drink whole cream in our coffee (OMG so good)
we use butter and olive oil
we eat lots of veggies but plenty of dairy and meat as well
we focus on whole foods
so if you are thinking about changing your eating habits and this appeals to you make sure you get your numbers checked but I can tell you my FI is a total convert now – he is Filipino so he grumbled about giving up white rice and rolls and sugary treats but the results are there!
