Hi ladies! I have been to St. Croix a few times and we still favor Carambola Beach resort over all the places we’ve traveled to since, so I wanted to throw it out there as an affordable, low-key and BEAUTIFUL option! Although it’s NOT all inclusive – the price ends up being about the same (even with Mexico being as cheap as it’s been lately) with your food intake. For the drinks, just buy a bottle of Cruzan off site or your liquor of choice and keep it in your bungalow!
Hope this is helpful to someone! 🙂

This is awesome because we are looking at the USVI as an anniversary spot. Flights seem to be pretty expensive to get there though. What airport is best?

@caszos: It should be cheaper to fly into St. Croix than to St. Thomas – both islands have one airport (and there is a ferry between the islands). St. John is BEAUTIFUL, but the resorts are expensive and you have to ferry over. If you have the means, it would be of interest to rent a private home or condo on St. John and explore that way.
St. Thomas is extremely touristy, but the shores are beautiful. It’s still rather expensive to stay though and we were glad to stay on the bigger island, anyways.
St. Croix is definitely more native. In my opinion, Carambola is the best resort on the island as it’s very private, gated, and you have a secluded beach for the resort. However – do rent a car! It’s helpful to go to one of the grocery stores and bring some snacks back to the hotel, plus we really enjoyed driving around and seeing the dryer, east side.
The best flight deals we found were through Expedia. I would think flights from Miami should be reasonable (I think you’re in FL), because our plane changes are always in Miami or Puerto Rico.
I do hope you guys can go! Beautiful islands, but get out and explore and definitely plan some day trip to ferry to the others. I think it’s $20 each way or something less.
