Hi all, I need some help!
Our search for a photographer has been a long, bumpy road. To add to the matter, we currently live in NorCal and our wedding will be in SoCal, so there have been a few trips involved in meeting up to speak with photographers. We currently have a photographer that we like and want to book (all day coverage…trad, Asian wedding afterall…, 2 photographers, less than 5K, but no album, though lots of freebies), but in the interest of satisfying our Asian parents, we wanted to make sure that we loved the photographer’s color as well as B/W pics (he’s a fine art photog, so he does lots and lots of beautiful B/W). So my fiance emailed him and asked to see more color pics online, so we can feel really good about our decision. Up until this point, he has been great getting back to our emails and phone calls, but we have been waiting for this color photo request for almost 2 weeks! He got back to us saying he was busy w/applying to a photography grant (the Guttenberg) and would get back to us after the Labor Day weekend. It’s after the long weekend and we’re still waiting 🙁
Should I start pestering him (my fiance has been the main contact up til this point), how long should I wait, what should I be able to tolerate?

I would pester him, and just act innocent saying that you’re not sure if the photos were "lost." Some of my vendors take a couple weeks to get back to me. It happenns more after the contract is signed though, opposed to while they’re trying to get the sale. But you should definitely follow up to remind him of your request.

I think you should ask him nicely once more. Do you have the contract locked in yet? If not, you can say gently, "Hi "photographer, I hope your grant applications are going well. I’m writing because we’d like to finalize our photography decision as soon as possible, as other photogs are waiting for us to get back to them," and then ask for the pictures again. If you receive no response for another week, I say that’s not very professional and there are tons of other wonderful photogs out there to choose from. Anyway, good luck! I know how unsettling it is to wait on vendors!

Whew! Thanks for the advice, I’m glad to know that my urge to email/call wasn’t unfounded. Luckily, the next day (maybe 2 days after), we heard back from him and received a link to some color photos of a wedding that he shot over the weekend. It took a little time to get the images (film) loaded onto his compy.
Photographer booked, yay!
