Congratulations & welcome to the bee! What a wonderful story you have and AWESOME that a wedding photog took pictures for you! That will be such a wonderful memory.
Omg, that is so sweet! And what luck with that photographer being there :) Congratulations - I can't wait to see the pictures!
I love that he caught you by surprise. It makes the moment so much more special! Congratulations!
Congrats! What a great story. Welcome to the bee. Please post your photos as soon as you get them!
Thanks, ladies. I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you on the Bee!
That sounds so sweet and perfect. Congratulations!
I've been a lurker for a while too. Still waiting on my ring, but my boyfriend and I have been discussing what to buy for a while now which sort of takes the surprise (and the romance!) out of it a bit. I'm so happy for you! :)
That's amazing! Sounds like it was storybook perfect--I can't believe the photographer was there! Congratulations. Post the pics when they come in!
PS: was the Indian restaurant Rasika? ;)
What a sweet and special engagement! And what crazy luck there was a professional photographer who happened to catch the moment! Now you need to show us the ring! ;)
@All In: It was called the Bombay Club. I definitely recommend it for a nice dinner date if you like Indian restaurants! Great food, beautiful restaurant, and reasonable prices.
Aww congrats that sounds like a perfect day/engagement and how lucky someone got pix! Cant wait to see them!

Hi Ladies (and the occasional gentlemen),
I've been lurking on these boards for longer than can possibly be healthly, but now that I'm engaged, I've decided to sign up, and I'm starting off with my proposal story. It just happened two days ago and I'm still incredibly excited (and still in shock).
Here it goes:
My then-boyfriend came home on Friday and told me to pack an overnight bag for the next day, because he had decided to take Saturday night off, and he wanted to take me on a surpise date. (Yeah, I know, suspicious, but he had me convinced that he hadn't even started looking at rings...). As he usually works all day on Saturday, I was really excited.
Saturday morning we ended up at a beautiful hotel suite. I thought that was the surprise, which was enough for me. However, he immediately took me out to lunch and then we boarded the Metro to downtown DC. I still had no idea where we were going at this point.
We get off the Metro and walk for a few minutes, when I look up and see the gorgeous Library of Congress. (It really is an amazing building.) As a English major, editor, and avid reader, I've wanted to see the LOC since we moved to the DC area over a year ago. We went inside and took a tour - I was amazed and estatic. I kept telling him that it was the greatest surprise!
We left around 4 pm - the sun was starting to set behind the Capitol, and he wanted to do "something" before it got dark. We went outside and wandered up to the front of the library. On the main steps, he told me to close my eyes. When I opened them, he was down on one knee with the ring box. I'm not sure it registered until he asked me! I fell to my knees and started crying. I don't remember what I said, but he says I asked him "Are you serious? Are you kidding?" Haha. Eventually, I said yes, and calmed down.
Turns out there was a random man there (not planned) who happens to be a wedding photographer and he said he took a few pictures while the proposal was happening. He gave us his card - we e-mailed him and he refuses to let us pay for the pictures. So we will soon have nice, free pictures of the proposal!
The day ended with a beautiful dinner at a very nice Indian restaurant and a night at our lovely hotel. It was perfect, and a complete surprise!
