You actually don't need a rabbi to officiate a Jewish wedding, and the only core element of the ceremony is a ritual phrase that doesn't involve the word God! So you guys should be fine :-) Sorry to not have any specific tips for New York, but most Jewish wedding stuff is optional. Check out the book by Anita Diamant, The New Jewish Wedding, and it'll walk you through basically everything.
My FI is also Jewish but doesn't really like the idea of God, so we're going to put together our ceremony readings/customs to make him as comfortable as possible. Good luck!

Hi all!
This is my first post!! I am curious if anyone has had a wedding like we are imagining and if so - I would love to hear more!!! We are both Jewish but neither of us is religious and we want to have alot of cultural elements of Judaism in our wedding but nothing religious - ie no reference to god (yes, I know - how can you have a Jewish wedding without god?). We also were thinking of some cool, hip reconstructionist rabbi to tie it all together...
Have any of you had a non-religous rabbi that lets you write most of your ceremony? Do such individuals exist in New York?
I would love to hear anything that you can share about your own experiences..... Thanks!
