I haven't seen anenomes used in "real life," but I disagree with his point that they photograph badly. I've seen TONS of bouquets with anenomes strewn across the blogosphere, and I think they look great.
Good luck!
My florist also told me they don't hold up well for a day full of pictures and would probably be ruined by the end of the night :(
Wow, I had no idea!! I love those flowers too. Did your florist give you any alternate suggestions for flowers to use that you liked?
My florist said they were a bad idea, too. Which kind of broke my heart, too. Luckily he came up with other great ideas so I'm not too upset.
... is it totally weird that when I read your title, I was thinking sea anemones? Under the sea...
That's interesting to hear, because they've been written about so much lately in bridal magazines as the new "it" flower. Thanks for the heads up!
That stinks because I LOVE the look of those flowers. I wonder if there is a good fake that would work well?
I feel your pain, I went in with the intention of using them in my bouquets, but my florist said the same thing. The centers apparently aren't always black and they don't always arrive in the best condition.
I was going to then do all white flowers with some little black beading popping out here and there... and then the florist told me that she's seen a lot of photographs where little black beading actually looks like bugs! I would have never thought of that. Sooo I'm just using white flowers with a black satin wrap. So far nobody has talked me out of that ;)

They look good to me!
I just had to stop by and check this out...as I clicked on the topic I was thinking...let me see what sea anemones have to do with wedding planning...this should be something I haven't seen before...LOL
Oh noooooooo, really? I was planning on pink anemones...this could spell trouble for my floral dreams. I'm glad you told us, though--I'll ask my florist what she thinks!
Alas! They are so pretty though... but your florist's point makes complete sense.
My florist said the exact same thing. We're doing black calla lilies mixed in with white garden roses and white peonies and wrapping the bouquet with black and white ribbon instead. I'm happy, even though I can't have my beloved anenomies :(

So, my dress is silver and my BMs dresses are black. We are going for a black/white/damasky type feel for our evening hotel wedding. I had been looking for a unique flower to incorporate and I was THRILLED with all of the pictures of anemones I found. I thought that the black centers would be the perfect touch to a nice bouquet.
However....I met with my florist yesterday and he shattered my floral dreams during the first 2 minutes. When I showed him the pictures, he said, "Not a good idea." While I was trying to breath again, he explained that they have extremely thin petals that are difficult to work with and that unless you have big bucks to spend on a lot of them to find ones with true black centers they usually come in looking purple and brides are always upset. He also added that they photograph poorly and often show up as 'holes' in the bouquet.
I was disappointed, but this guy has a great reputation and makes beautiful arrangements so I trust him. I picked out different flowers and am happy with my decision. I just thought I'd share that bit with you in case your florist wouldn't...
Just out of curiosity...has anyone used anemones and had GOOD luck?
