- Wedding: December 2011
This afternoon, my boyfriend (now fiance!!) and I went for a hike on our favorite trail just outside of town. He had been talking about going for a hike and taking photos for about a week, but the weather had been horrible. Today, the forecast was for sun and not-to-cold temps, so we decided to go before I had to go to class.
Unfortunately, the forecast lied – it was overcast and pretty cold, but we headed out anyways, just bundling up to stay warm. When we got out onto the trail, we started to smell a distinct manure scent. By the time we got to our favorite hill that overlooks the surrounding countryside, we could tell why – it seemed that the fields around that part of the trail had been recently fertilized, and it reeked! We stopped so that he could take some photos, but then continued on as quickly as we could.
Finally, towards the end of the trail, we stopped on an overlook where we could see a small stream running below us at the bottom of the hill. He told me that he finally had my birthday present (my birthday was a week and a half ago, but he told me he had ordered something that hadn’t come yet). He said he had wanted to give it to me when it was sunny and pretty out, and definitely hadn’t planned on the persistent poop smell , but he had it now. He told me to close my eyes, and before I opened them, I felt him embrace me and give me a kiss. When he pulled away and told me to open my eyes, he was on one knee with a ring box in front of him. He wasn’t particularly wordy, but it was sweet – with a big grin on his face, he simply asked “Will you marry me?” I already had tears streaming down my face, so I could hardly see him, but I made sure to say “Yes!” and we hugged and kissed some more.
I’m so happy! He was super cute afterwords, talking about how I’m his fiance now, not his girlfriend anymore, and he’s been calling me “fiance” all day! We don’t have a date set yet, but it looks like we’ll be aiming for December. Can’t wait!
Oh, and I know this is already long, but here’s the ring! It’s a sapphire set in yellow gold with small diamonds on each side – exactly what I wanted
