Do you rent or own? And what?
My husband & I rent a apartment. We plan to buy within the next two years!
My husband and I own our home. We bought it the week we got married (FUN!).
We rent an apartment. There's no way we can afford to buy a house in New Jersey any time soon.
We rent an apartment (townhouse) and plan to be here until not this coming April but the following April... then maybe we'll get a house. Idk... DH and I don't think we'll be here in the city we're in now for much longer than a couple years.
We rent an apartment... and don't plan to buy a house for a long long long time! At most, we'll invest in a condo that we can live in until we move again after grad school/postdoc years, and then rent out when we move on.
We own a manufactured home that actually looks like a house, but it is catagorized as manufactured.
My fiance bought a fixer upper right before we met. It's fixed up on the inside, but the outside is a disaster zone.
My fiance bought a fixer upper and re-built it from the ground up with his brother & dad a few years before we met. He owns it.
We rent an apartment. We love the maintenance free lifestyle and all the amenities our apartment comes with. We also love working 5 minutes away from home. When we get closer to starting a family we will probably sacrifice the convenience for more space and buy (or at least rent) a house.
FI bought the house a few years before we met. After we get married and I go through all the name changing fun, we'll add my name to the mortgage.
We rent an apartment. Right now FI is finishing up his degree so we are living in a smaller college town. Sometime within the next one or two years we plan on moving back closer to our families.
We own a house. I think I would prefer a condo but DH is a house kind of guy and there was no convincing him of the things I see as positives to condos like maintainance.
We currently rent an apartment. DH is in the military, so I'm hoping that he ends up with orders to stay in the area so we can look at buying a house (we don't live on base and don't want to...it is nice for him to feel like he isn't always "at work"...though sometimes it feels like moving into base housing would be easier!)
We live in a house that I owned before DH and I met. Lots of rooms and a huge yard which is way more than we need. Being that we are sending the youngest off to college next year, we plan on downsizing into a duplex in about a year or so. We plan to keep the other half of the duplex available for the kids/young adults when they need it during college breaks. We think it would be ideal. We'd have our space and they would have theirs.
We rent a house but it is a 2 year lease with option to purchase. We have been here a year next week. When we moved to Myrtle Beach we didn't know the area well enough to commit to purchase. Now that we live here we love the house and it's less than 2 blocks to the ocean, I imagine we will think about buying it when the time comes.
We own our house. We lived together in a rented home for 6 months, then found our perfect house and bought it. We bought it before we were engaged or married.
We rent a house. I love our house and my landlord is good to us We may buy it but we need more space
We rent a house. I would prefer to rent an apartment but we live out in the country and every single apartment complex (literally) is low-income based, which we don't qualify for. We will probably be in this house for 2-3 years, since we eventually want to move 30-40 miles away in the future.
We (well, he - I'm not on the mortgages) have two homes - one is a 4br 2.5ba rental, and we live in a 3br 2.5ba house as well.
Own an apartment? What is that? If you own an apartment.... isnt that a condo?
We rent an apartment in downtown Chicago, which is fairly costly. We both work downtown so it makes sense. However, FI wants to find a job in the suburbs soon (he's a teacher) so we will probably move out there in a year or two. When we do, I hope to buy a house since we'll have enough money for a down payment at that time and our monthly mortgage will be less than the rent we pay now!
We rent a duplex. It's an awesome price for the area we live in. We would love to have our own house but we're not ready financially. Hopefully a year out two after our wedding we'll be ready.
We rent a duplex. I HATE it. I hate sharing a house and driveway with another family.
We rent the second floor of a house. I voted for duplex but it's actually a triplex! We are on the second floor, sandwiched between an elderly Italian brother (upstairs) and sister (downstairs) - they are soooo loud!
We will buy a house eventually, and hopefully in the same neighbourhood we're in now.
@nutMeg13: Haha, agree. Although I don't hate where we live, our landlady who lives downstairs is definitely all up in our business. And she doesn't really speak English (although she thinks she can) so it leads to many awkward conversations. And she has a really loud yappy dog.
We own a terraced 3 bed 1.5 bath house with a reasonable sized garden. We bought it about 7 months after getting together and moved in 10 months after.
We're both on the mortgage and pay an equal share of the bills.
What's the difference between an apartment and a condo and what's a duplex?
i didn't vote because I don't have an option on here..
Future in laws are letting us move into a home they own, and we can live there rent free until FI graduates pharmacy school.. so we're not going to own the house but we aren't paying rent either soooo... yeah :)
We rent an apartment. We want to own a home sometime in the future (probably pretty distant future), but we've talked about moving to a nicer apartment within the next couple years. The one we live in how is nice, but it's pretty basic, and there are some "luxury" apartments down the road that we're really interested in.
@pinkshoes: I heard on tv a celebrity talking about buying a apartment when she was younger and she still has it. I can't think of her name. :/
We have rented our apartment for the past 12 months. We're SO CLOSE to our home being ready, in which my vote will change in early 2012 (we hope!) to own-home!
I don't regret renting our apartment for a second. It worked perfectly for us!
@pandaboo: AWESOME DEAL!
@SpecialSundae: I am pretty sure condo's are bigger? IDK though! lol
And I found this for you to explain a duplex: A duplex house is defined as a dwelling having apartments with separate entrances for two families. This includes two-story houses having a complete apartment on each floor and also side-by-side apartments on a single lot that share a common wall.[1] By contrast, a building comprising two attached units on two distinct properties is typically considered semi-detached or twin homes but may also be referred to as a duplex.
I bought our house 2 years before I met my FI, he moved in last April, and when I remortgage (which reminds me I need to do that SOON!) we will add his name to the mortgage.
We're onlyengaged and were renting until we havetravelled and we have built out house :D
Ah, so my mum's house would be a duplex, although they each have separate gardens. I thought it was a two-story apartment.
We rent an apartment. DH is in law school right now, so buying isn't the most financially prudent move right now. We're also not entirely sure where we'll end up once he finishes school, so we'll probably look at buying once we're more settled.
