Several of our friends have thrown post-wedding wedding parties (usually because their families live in other areas, they go there for the wedding). We want to do it because we are having a very small wedding (18 guests due to budget and location), and have already had several of our friends ask about one (assuming that we are).
Right now we know that it would be the Saturday after our wedding (Thursday), and would be a casual affiar. Beyond that we have our friend’s band that wants to play and a guest list of around 40ish. I’m not a party planner so I have no clue on how to proceed from there. Do we send out paper invites (before the wedding?) or do we stick with what most of our friend’s have done and send out a e-mail?
Anyone who’s done this I would love your imput because I am clueless about the whole thing!

@renwoman: Throw it like you would throw any other party. Send out evites through an online program or Facebook or email, whatever your group of friends normally does. Then plan food and drinks and entertainment just like you would for any other house party. It’s not your wedding so it doesn’t have to be as formal nor does it have to have the elements of a wedding.

@renwoman: Our friends did this after their destination wedding.
They rented a community banquet hall for cheap, did ipod music, had a cash bar and did sandwhich/veggie/cheese trays with homemade cupcakes.
It was great!
They also got many more gifts… Mostly cash, so bonus, lol.

We are doing this too (except it will be the night OF our wedding)! And we are SO unsure of how to go about it. We were kind of thinking back yard shin dig at a friend of the family’s with a fire and BYOB…… no idea. 🙁
