I would probably go ahead and have a bbq, even if it's after you get back from your honeymoon. You can send another invitation to the people in UT saying something like "Please celebrate with us following the return from our honeymoon" There are better wordings than that online.
As far as the deck, roof and fence, unless money is a major issue, I would go ahead and try to get it fixed. I know you have alot going on with the wedding but you're going to have to get it fixed sometimes soon anyway, right?
As for decorations for the bbq party, I would reuse wedding decorations, just to make it a bit more festive. You could even have it more of a "Welcome us home as newlyweds" party, rather than a "reception"
@paigers91 : "Welcome us home as newlyweds" party sounds like a much better deal...
The house work is a little overwhelming combined with all the wedding planning, but youre right - its gunna happen eventually.
I hope I helped!
I would just see what you could get done before the wedding. I'd say pick the most important, like the roof and the deck and try to get that done. The fence could wait as long as what's blown over isn't all in your yard. I doubt the guests would even notice or think anything of it, especially with it being storm damage so its possible some of your guests would have house repairs that they haven't gotten done yet either.
Do you want to do anything in UT? If not, you're really under no obligation to have a second party for people that can't go to CA.
Well, we never really had an open house when we bought our home a year ago... So it would be nice to have people over... Maybe I will wait to see how many people we end up having at the wedding... If it's half to two thirds what I expected then yea a second party is probably in order

FI and I will be getting Married in CA this May... We currently live in Utah and I went to school in NY so we invited people from pretty much all over the country...
We will be going to NY in a week, where my MOH is planning a bridal shower --> so most of the people on the East Coast will have a chance to celebrate with us...
The problem is that we invited a ton of people from work here in UT and now that everyone has gotten their invite I keep getting asked what we have planned in UT for people who cannot travel to CA...
I hadn't really thought about it... I suppose we could have a 'open house' type BBQ here when we get back from our European Honeymoon, but that would be almost a month after the wedding.... is that too long of a gap?
Also, we had a terrible windstorm in December that tore off half our roof AND knocked down our fence... plus our deck was never in that great of shape to begin with.... So I am worried we wont be able to get the house in shape in time...
And what? Send a second round of invites?!?!
I'm Lost!
