Monday we went to look at a couple more rings and I thought things were finally looking up for us. He didn’t like the one ring as much as I did but that’s okay. He actually wanted me to draw out what I like but he already knows my only thing is that it must be white gold and a round diamond. everything else is up to him.
Here’s the sad part. He got a letter from the IRS today saying he owes them over $500 in taxes from 2009. I told him I want to see that letter before he responds to it to make sure it’s legit. It makes me sad because there goes any money he saved up for the ring and we’re back at square one. Why do things like this always have to happen right when things are finally going in the right direction??? 🙁

Im sorry your going through this….but maybe this happend for a reason? its very important to take care of the IRS first…they are very scary group of people.

@strangewaysherewecome: Haha, the government DOESN’T have enough money!
But OP, that’s not your problem, and kudos for wanting to check it over and make sure it’s legit. There are a lot of scammers out there.
Looks like you have three options at this point: 1. Wait, 2. settle for a much smaller diamond and upgrade later, or 3. Consider moissanite/colored gemstone/white sapphire/CZ. Moissanite has a lot of the properties that make diamonds desirable for long-term wear, and they are really pretty. Might be something to consider if you really want to be married soon more than you want your dream ring.

here’s an idea– what if he proposes with a simple ring (which can later be your wedding band) and then you can get the engagement ring later?

thanks for the encouragement ladies 🙂
@EffieTrinket: I wouldn’t mind a small diamond. I have very tiny hands so all the ones I have liked have been pretty small, nothing over 1/2 carat tw and nothing expensive by any means. I’m not too sure how he would be about a non-diamond ring but he is very proud and even hates borrowing money when he needs it between checks once in a while so I doubt he would even go for that. I think I’ll just be waiting longer than I hoped.
@bookworm88: I’ll have to see what he thinks about that. I’m not sure if he would go for that but it’s a good suggestion.
Hopefully this doesn’t throw the timeline off too much (before the end of the year is the timeline) so we can finally move forward. Thank you again for the great advice.

@wishingonadream04: I know the IRS thing sounds scary, but you can setup payment plans with them, and pay as little as $25 a month. Just an option to think about, if your guy doesn’t have the funds to take care of it right away.

Awww, I’m sorry. It’s like that movie UP. It describes Darling Husband and I to a tee. Something else always comes up. Or wasn’t it John Lennon that said “Life is what happens when you are making other plans?”
Keep your chin up. the good $500, not $5000 that he owes!
