Since planning the whole wedding just isn't enough for me I guess, I've been trying to think up a neat surprise for my wonderful groom. I would like it to be something fun, thoughtful, unexpected, and creative. Things like a groom's cake, boudoir album, or original song are out for a number of reasons, and I can't seem to think of what to do.

So ladies, have any ideas? Or, what are you doing for YOUR groom?

Was he a sports player or anything like that? My DH played 3 varsity sports and saved all pictures and news articles that they he was in so right now I am in the process of making him a scrapbook.

Nothing too fancy - I ordered some cute cufflinks from Etsy with our wedding date on them, and I am having someone give him a bottle of Patron Silver (his absolute favorite tequila) the day of :-) Nothing overtly special, but a few little things I know he will appreciate.

is there something he has always wanted to do? or wanted to buy and just can get himself to splurge? my groom has been dying for a dirt bike for eons...not that im going to buy him one but its something he always talks about doing. he also always talks about getting his pilot license...i looked into it and its super expensive but ill be supportive if he chooses to do it in the future. Another thing i looked in was the BMW plant down in greenville SC. he loves his bmw and you can take classes and drive different types around their track. Another thing he really wants to try is the outdoor wind tunnel in Asheville, i've considered getting a cabin or something for a weekend and taking him up there, let him do the wind tunnel and then do a candlelit tour of the Biltmore....

I am making him a pair of cuff-links on Etsy. I saw that another bee did this by taking the tickets from their first game they went to or something  and they turned out really well.

I am making my cuff-links from a piece of floorboard from our old apartment where he purposed. I thought this idea was sweet and sentimental and something he can wear for other big events in his life.

Totheislands, if your fiance is interested in flying, you could give him a certificate for what's generally called a Discovery Flight. This is usually a half hour flight with a flight instructor. Your fiance would be actually handling the controls and getting a taste of piloting and flight instruction.

These Discovery Flights are quite affordable, and might also help your fiance see how he likes the experience of being a student pilot. Just call up a local flight school and ask about a Discovery Flight.

The flying experience would have been great... but my fiance IS a pilot! :D

I like the idea of some kind of memory book or scrapbook, and I think I could get my hands on enough to fill it -- definitely an option.

Is anyone doing something special *at* the wedding? I'd love to surprise him with... something, I just don't know what.

@BostonBaby: I sent him a vintage crate filled with fun stuff for him to enjoy with his groomsmen. So he got cigars, a nice bottle of scotch, chips & dip, etc, and then I put in a boudoir album for his eyes only ;)  Is there a meal or treat that's really special to him? DH loves cheese so I made sure to have a cheese buffet for him but then I made a little bowl with lactose pills to put out beside it since he's lactose intolerant and is NOTORIOUS for forgetting to take his pills! He thought it was hilarious! If you have a meaningful song maybe you have a friend who's a great singer who could serenade you?

FI has wanted this pair of headphones Dr. Dre for a long time but they are really expensive and he can't justify spending the money on them. I'm going to buy the headphones as my wedding gift to him and package them along with one of our iPod touches. I will pre-record my wedding day message to him and load the mp3 onto the iPod with instructions so he knows what file to play.

FI HATES cards so loading my message onto an mp3 is totally right up his alley.

I plan to have the headphones completely set up (whatever happened to just taking them out of the package and using them? sheesh!) and plugged into the iPod so theres no confusion.

@TexasGalah: I will do some research, it is something he has been dying to do and haha in his "10 year plan" to get his pilots license. Thanks so much for the info!

@BostonBaby: My FI's sister got married in August, She had a picture taken of her in her wedding dress during a fitting and had it converted into an oil painting on canvas. it was absolutely beautiful and he loved the gift.

I'm doing a DIY boudior photo album. There are so great tips here and you can do it with a trusted friend (former roomate from college) a digital camera and some photo editing software. You can always send the files to an online photoprinting place so you don't have to have your face seen in the store :-)

I'm also going to do some special things for him during the day including a card, gift (maybe something like a watch since he needs one). I also got him a shotgun for our engagement because he likes to hunt.

I just want him to know how special he is to me, and that I think about him when he's not around. You'll be able to find some special ways to tell him you love him.

I'm surprising him with a grooms cake at the wedding of his old college mascot which he is OBSESSED with...he's been out of undergrad for years but loves his old college and any games they play in.  I think it's a good idea and everyone at the wedding can see it too.
