Ladies, this couple were inspired. I know we melt all over pretty wedding details and work hard to make our days just so, but you have to admit - there is something heart-warming about the happy couple being the only detail at this wedding! Click the link to see what I mean, then come back and tell us your thoughts.

Would you do this? How would you react if your friends threw a surprise wedding?

Man, I wish I had thought of that about oh..a year ago. Staring down the barrell of the next 3.5 months of planning looks a lot more grim with that as one of my options :)

What a great story, thank you for sharing. Sometimes we get so caught up in the details we forget what is truly important. I love the look of the girls faces! Priceless!

Wow, this story is so beautiful! THAT'S what weddings are about. "Hey, we love each other. We're commited to this. Let's get married...like right now." "Hmmmm...OK!" I would love to have something that amazing and spur-of-the-moment happen...tempting. Very tempting.

There's actually a similar story in my family. My aunt got engaged, and rather than wait for a few years while they finished school, they planned a wedding in two weeks! An outdoor ceremony at a mansion, dresses and guests and everything. From what I hear it was beautiful.

    Definitely food for thought.

I really wish we would have done this.  Not that I don't enjoy the planning... I just want to be married. And I think it would have been incredibly fun.

That's so precious!! I feel convinced FI and I would have done something similar (or maybe just have a really really short engagement) if he was allowed to get married (he's at a service academy).

This is just so sweet-what a good reminder of what it's all about :)

    @cinema: AWESOME!!

@jenny: how cool, i am seriously thinking of how i can pull this of after M pops the question... that will also keep the guest list down (one of my main concerns) because not everyone will come to the engagement party...

One of my best friends just pulled together a wedding in about a month, and it was seriously one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen!

My cousin's husband threw her a suprise wedding. Basically, they got married when they were 18 at the court house with none of our family present and she never had a wedding. It was really hard for her and she cried at both her siblings weddings because she missed not having one.

So, her husband concocted this whole scheme and got their whole church involved. Another woman was getting married and asked my cousin to try on dresses with her, and then she found "the dress" she would have loved to get married in. The woman told my cousin's husband and he bought the dress.

It was a really, really, REALLY beautiful ceremony and she was so surprised and happy because she finally got to walk down the aisle with her family there and to celebrate love. It was awesome!

This past Saturday, I actually had two weddings that were surprises to the guests! One couple had been together for 5 years, were expecting and just bought a new home. He decided that the housewarming would be a wedding.  Booked them and three days later I get an email from another couple that were together 11 years and bought a new house. Decided to have a wedding at their housewarming and could I do it? What a fun weekend. These couples were surrounded by the most important people in their lives and for the cost of a little food and an officiant had a spectacular memory. The ceremony and its commitment was their focus, as it should be.

I'm with ya, Fifty!  I get a little teary-eyed when I look at those pictures.  I just said to Mr. Octo that with all the stress we've been through with planning so far, I'd love to do this.  He'd be down, but we're at least five states away from our families so it might not work too well :(  Regardless, I'm really pumped for our wedding and thankful for the reminder of what it should all be about!

Cinema, good luck!  So excited for you :)

I had a friend who always describes the best wedding she's ever been to:

Everyone showed up in October for a clam bake in jeans and other fall wear, when all of a sudden, the couple hosting asks everyone to head to a chapel across the street.  There they get married and the clambake that was planned turns into a hugely successful reception.
