Both of my cats were impulse adoptions, so yes, I have this problem.  I love looking at the reptiles and pocket pets and Petsmart, but I don’t really want one forever.  I have to steer clear of the cats they have for adoption though!

@RenoSweeney24:  Turtles.  When I see turtles in a pet store I want to buy them.  WHY

I’ve known people who had ferrets, and they always stink and aren’t my thing, but SO and I went to Petsmart the other day, and there were ferrets. They actually followed us as we moved back and forth in front of their cage, and one of them kept leaping up at the top like it was trying to say, “Hi, guys! Take me with you!” We didn’t get one, but yes, I had a moment.

I also love rodents. I’ve always had rats or mice or hamsters, so those always get me as well at pet supermarkets. I think about getting one every time, but trying to clean the cage of an animal that wants to escape constantly is too nerve-wracking. Plus, I was a little traumatized when my last pet mouse died. It sounds silly since they’re not exactly lap animals and have such short lifespans, but I was attached to it.

@RenoSweeney24: Mice/hamsters usually only live for a couple of years.

i saw a really cute little hedgehog that i kind of wanted. didnt get it as i figured i preferred pets that are affectionate/can do tricks or whatever whereas im fairly sure a hedgehog is just there and doesnt do much

we had a turtle once.  My stepdad found him by the side of the road one day on his way home from volunteering at the ski slopes where we lived.  It was supposed to be unreasonably cold that night, so he picked the little guy up and brought it home!!!

I came home that night and my stepdad was laying on his side on the couch, and the little turtle was like, half burrowed under his chest, SNUGGLING to be warm. Oh. My. Gawd.

My little brother named him Ninja. He was probably a pet before and someone turned him loose, because he was so friendly. You could pick him up and he wouldn’t go back in his shell, he’d just hang out out there. And if you brought your nose up close to his he would meet you the rest of the way and bump noses with you.

He wasn’t even afraid of our dachshunds, although when Beatrice would try to gently pick him up by the “scruff” of his neck he would duck in his shell then. She would get SO confused. She tried to mother Ninja and would sometimes growl at the other dogs to stay away haha.

I loved that little guy!! But when winter rolled around again we let him go in a neaby nature preserve area, since we couldn’t build him the proper home in our backyard for him to hibernate.
