What do you think of this dress??
I tried on dresses recently, and thought I had a really good idea of what I wanted. I wanted a simple style (ie not big and poofy) but with SPARKLES, and/or lace, and probably a V-neck. I tried on dresses but just couldn’t find anything I really felt COMFORTABLE in.
Then I went to J Crew because I really like the simple style of their dresses, and told the bridal assistant the dresses that I’d chosen online to try on. She brought the ones I’d selected, and another, and she said “I know you didn’t choose this one, but I think it would look great on you”. And I tried it on and was very surprised how much I liked it. It is VERY simple though, and has no sparkles. It has a high neck, which was on my “do not want” list!
And I have to say, of the 10+ dresses I’ve tried on now, this was the one I felt most comfortable in.
So while I do like it a lot, my reservation is the fact that I didn’t choose it! So I’m just asking for opinions… do you like this??

To me, you can wear that dress anywhere. It doesn’t say bridal to me.

You look stunning! I am also wearing j crew yay! But you really look fantastic. I am also the girl who doesn’t like poof and rhinestones or ruffles. And comfort is a priority. If you’re certain this is the kind of bride you are than jcrew is perfect for you. Its also hard to say no to 100% silk.

It’s more of a formal dress to me. Like a nice dinner party, not a wedding. You look lovely in it…but I wouldn’t consider it a wedding dress.

I think it’s pretty, but I agree it doesn’t really say “I’m getting married”. I also think it doesn’t do your gorgeous figure justice. I would keep looking, but obviously it’s ultimately your decision!
My dress fits your description, (pic below) you may want to check out Paloma Blanca! Their dresses are simple, yet elegant with a touch of sparkle on some. For the most part they are more fitted and not poofy. I actually got mine as a sample and it was 68% off, so you may want to look at that as an option as well. 🙂

I agree that it doesn’t scream bridal but perhaps you don’t want something that does. It is a very beautiful dress and you look beautiful in it.

@vivalagloria: you look amazing in that dress. it doesn’t look “bridal” but if you prefer the more “evening gown” look, i think you have it with this dress.
how does this dress make you feel? can you see yourself wearing this dress when you say “i do”?

@Rubbs: anywhere??? you dress fancy 🙂
@vivalagloria: I think it is very beautiful on you. I love simplicity and I think if that’s the kind of wedding you’re having this is a great option.

The style reminds me of the simpler Jenny Packham dresses. (Sorry if the picture is large, I’m new to this 🙂 ) This one has some elements of Marigold with the silk fall of Aspen.
Some people feel that simple silk dresses aren’t bridal enough so you will definately have an dress that deviates from the common concept most people have of bridal dresses. Even though I’m a JP bride (Aspen) my body shape is very much like yours, slim and willowy. This style of dress elongates your body and gives you, in my opinion, an air of simple sophistication. That dress enhances you, and the dress doesn’t wear you (a mistake I’ve seen in several brides).
What drew me to my dress was how comfortable it feels, it honestly felt so light and smooth when I wear it and walk around in it. It might be silly but I feel like I’m walking through clouds, so light and airy. Once you wear a silk dress anything else will feel stiffer and heavier (and trust me I probably wore over 50 dresses of every style imaginable and several designers). Whats important in the end however is what you like in a dress and how it makes you feel. Do you imagine walking down the aisle with ANYTHING else? Is there anything that bugs you about this dress? For example it doesn’t seem like this one has a train, would this bug you? If you have ANY doubts whatsoever keep looking but keep this one in the back of your mind.
Good luck dress shopping!

@vivalagloria: I LOVE IT! I think it is perfect!

I don’t mind the criticism that it doesn’t really say “wedding”, because our whole wedding doesn’t really scream “wedding!”. We’re having the reception in a bar/restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, so it has a very indie/vintagey kind of feel, where there’s no assigned seating or traditional sit down meal. It’s going to be more like a big party than a formal wedding reception. So actually I think I’m okay with it not looking like a traditional bridal gown… I’m not a traditional bride.
I tried on some more traditional style dresses and they just felt very big and heavy to me, not something that I could easily dance in.
@pacificgirl, that dress looks gorgeous on you! But I think it’s a bit too bridal looking for me. I tried on one with a slight fishtail flare like yours and even that felt like too much. Also, I have discovered that I really can’t pull off a strapless dress.
@Ettalie – I LOVE Jenny Packham! If I could afford it I would get one of hers, that’s totally the style I want. So I think this dress is a nice, and cheaper, alternative.
The dress doesn’t actually come with this belt, but I’d get something similar, maybe more ‘bridal’ looking. I’d also dress it up with fancy earrings and bracelets and maybe a pretty sparkly headband?

@vivalagloria: I love J Crew bridal dresses! I wore the Arabelle gown and it is so so simple too but I felt amazing in it! Also with a tiny frame like you have a big gown may “swallow you” if you know what I mean! Go rock it!

@vivalagloria: It seems we think alike! Your dress actually made me think it had elements of Jenny Packham and I personally love it on you! So you get that airy timeless look without the pricetag which is am amazing deal I think!
I think with a dress like that, as with mine, wear it with a nice statement/fancy earrings and a sparkly headband and I think you’ll be quite gorgeous! I personally would keep a sparkly belt because it emphasizes your beautiful waist but there are so many options available you can get one which fits your vision!

I love it. I kinda like the fact that it doesn’t scream “bridal!”

I think you look STUNNING in that dress. I would wear it in a heartbeat.
