- Wedding: September 2012
I have been lurking on the boards for awhile and never posted. But one thing I did notice was the lack of African Americans and their Charleston weddings and vendors so I figured if I posted it may help a future bride. I do not have professional pictures yet.
My wedding was this past Saturday (8th) and I have to say although an hour behind schedule it was a perfect day. I had my wedding at a church in North Charleston for $600 which compared to the rental fee’s at some of the other churches I feel that was a steal and they can record your ceremony thus saving you videographer fees. My reception was at the Saint James Event Center on James Island. That venue is beautiful and huge. It can accomodate your wedding and reception if you want to have it all at the same place.
I know a lot of people come to Charleston and want weddings at a lot of the well known places but those places also cost you and I have a wonderful wedding for a lot less than what you would spend on venue alone. My cake was done by Sweet Creations by Gwen and everyone loved it. Catering was done by Heavenly Hands Catering and she did more than what was expected and people are still talking about the food. They said the cocktail hour alone was fantastic. My photographer was JC Lopez from Low Country Wedding Photography. He did my engagement, bridal and wedding shoot and was absolutely amazing.
The girl that did my hair and make up is an instructer at a hair school I won’t put her name out but you can IM me for her information. Everyone said I looked like a black baby doll. The way she did my makeup it was flawless I even looked at myself and couldn’t believe it was me.
I did have a wedding coordinator who is also wonderful. She was great to work with and made my vision come true. It’s like I had my very own David Tutera moment. I would recommend her to anyone so if you would like her name please let me know.
I hope this post helps others out there that want to get married in Charleston but feel that it is too expensive. It can be done for less you just may have to go outside of the historic downtown.
