Wow! That sucks 🙁 I try to be pretty tight-lipped about our name choices for this exact reason but DH would tell the cashier at the grocery store if he asked.

FWIW, my name is Olivia and everyone who hears my name says it is beautiful!

FWIW – I love the name Olivia, and the nickname Olive, OR Liv, Livi….so many options! Sounds adorable.

@megz06:  I have a story! My Mom grew up on a dairy farm.

Mom: So what are you thinking for names?

Me: If it’s a boy, we’re going to have to call it “Boy”. We can’t agree on anything. But if it’s a girl, (and I was sure it was going to be a boy, which is the only reason I told her our girl name) her name will be Annabelle Mae (Lastname).

Mom: Moo.

Me: What?

Mom: MOO! ANNABELLE?! That’s a COW NAME! (Hysterical laughter)

Then we found out she is, in fact, a girl. And her name will be Annabelle. And now we all laugh about my Mom’s TERRIBLE name reaction!

Olivia is like, the most normal name ever. I LOVE that name, love love it. What’s her deal? I told people my baby names only because I don’t give a flying fuckedy fuck what anyone has to say. And I can’t imaine anyone having the balls to say anything to me either LOL.

Well I take that back. When I was pregnant with my son before I knew he was a he I was talking names with my parents. I was IN LOOOOVE with the name Isabella and my Dad was all ” You aren’t from Spain, that’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard” I just laughed it off, had a boy and in the end I am glad for what he said because of Twlight the amount of Isabelle/Isabellas/Bellas in this world is insane.

Grrr, I wish people were nicer! For what it’s worth, I really like the name Olivia! 🙂

Oh, another reason why you dont’ share names? A friend becomes pregnant and uses it. True story! Okay, okay, I know I don’t exactly OWN a name, especially when I’m not even pregnant yet, but it still kind of sucks when you’ve had a name in mind since you were 13.

@BrandNewBride:  HAHAHA! I love your story 🙂 I had no idea Annabelle was a cow name, I’ve always thought it was a rather posh name! 🙂

We have Stella picked out for our baby and our neighbors child is named Ella. Well our other neighbor (who we aren’t always entirely fond of) made the comment “why don’t you just name her Ella like Laura’s daughter, that’s what people are gonna call her anyway”. Um I’m pretty sure Stella will not be shortened, at least not to Ella. And I told her that, who would even think that?!?! But she’s continued to say how much she likes our middle name and how that she be the first name. You know what? When we get pregnant next time I just won’t be including you on anything.

I hate that people are so judgmental when it comes to babies.  My DH will probably tell anyone that asks because like @mixtapehearts:  he doesn’t care what people say. I will tell anyone close to me – but not random co-workers or people I am not close with.

@sit1010:  Stella was my great grandmother’s and my grandmother’s sister’s name, and when I mentioned possibly using it for a child my mom was HORRIFIED. Because apparently Stella is super weird and no one has ever heard of it, and oh that poor child. Gotta love moms! We’re not even TTC yet and she gets all huffy when we won’t discuss possible names of our non-existent child, lol.

Oh I get that one, I told my mom couple of names we had been thinking about for little boy. Que scrunched up face for both, but she didn’t say she liked/disliked. Well we used the one name for our son and she doesn’t mind the name now of course

My best friend refused to tell her mom the name they chose for their daughter because her mom hated every name suggestion out of spite. See, my friend’s mom wanted her to name the baby Mary after her grandmother and my friend refused…so her mom essentially refused to like any other name.
