Starting midnight, they won’t be able to crank up the volume on commercials to eardrum-shattering decibels anymore. Courtesy of Congress’s CALM Act.
From now on, commercials will have to be within 2 db of the regular programming.
I, for one, am pretty excited. Lol I know, it’s lame, but this is a huge personal pet peeve of mine.

Yes! It always drives me crazy how loud some commercial are. It’s like the remote doesn’t leave my hand because I have to constantly adjust the volume, lol thanks for this random but totally awesome post!

YES! this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. This was supposed to be done earlier this year but it kept getting pushed back. Thank goodness!

@rachelmichelle: So glad! Channels like TNT have their commercials soooo loud!

@rachelmichelle: So glad they’re doing something about that! With DVR’s around, I understand its hard to get the attention of the viewer, but making commercials unbearable is not the solution!
My suggestion is they make them entertaining, witty, and engaging! I would watch commercials that are interesting, not that blow my eardrums out!

My father (and husband) are in communications, so when they saw this on TV they about exploded. It’s such an awesome thing. I’m pretty stoked.

THANK GOD!!! I heard about this a couple of years ago and just commented to my FI that I was surprised it hadn’t happened yet. Oh, that makes me so happy.
