I can’t believe how stupid I am. I made an appointment a month ago to try on wedding dresses and was so excited up until now. I completely forgot to take my size into account 🙁
i am a street size 12 because I’ve gained a lot recently, and I didn’t even consider that sample sizes will be too small to fit me. The store I’m going to considers themselves “higher end” and I’m sure they usually cater to smaller girls. I read online a sample is usually a size 6 or 8 or even 10 which would be way too small on me.
now I feel like my appointment will just be humiliating and I want to cry and cancel it.
vent over 🙁

@MrsCreeToBe: consultants are used to girls who arent the samples! Stay calm! I am a street size 14/16 and my first appointment went great! Much better than expected.

I’m a street and bridal size 10-14. I had no trouble fitting into the majority of samples. Most stores carry a wide variety of sample sizes including average and larger sizes. Don’t worry so much 🙂

I hope 🙁 I have a vision of them trying to zip up a dress and it busting or not being able to squeeze my giant hips into anything.
If bridal gowns run small and average sample size is a 10, isnt that like street size 6-8?? Way way way smaller than me

I’m a street size 8 and I found the samples varied even at high end salons.
They had some small dresses like an 8 which is a street size 4 or 6 and then they had some that fit and others that were too big. The samples that were too small I could still get into they just didnt zip so I still had a good idea of how they would look. Honestly, a 12 is not that big so you should be fine. Also, dont let it bother you that you may have to order your dress in a 16 or 18 depending on the designer and what type of body shape you have. My dress is a 14 bc my big measurement was my bust.
Good Luck! You will be fine

*hugs* It will be alright. I was so nervous when I went for my first appointment because I thought I’d end up hating my body and size even more but I left feeling great and I really hope that you will to0. Like the other PPs said, most salons carry a variety of sample sizes. Try on dresses with corset backs because the way they cinch you in does wonders.

I am so sorry you are feeling this way. I am also a size 12 and I feel very insecure about it. I would think bridal shops would be use to people coming in who are the same size as us. Maybe you could call the shop and ask if they have sample sizes in your size before you go. Maybe that would make you feel better?

@MrsCreeToBe: *hugs* You’re going to be fine! I completely understand where you are coming from though – dress shopping was something I was not looking forward to at all! When I went shopping, I was a street size 12/14 and went to some high end stores and I think there was maybe one dress that the consultant couldn’t squeeze me into Once that first dress goes on, you’re going to feel so much better and start to have a lot of fun! So take a deep breath, have a glass of wine, and go into that appointment with your head high and just have fun! I remember feeling like such a superstar once I got over my fear!

I’m a street size 12 some of the samples I tried on fit, but were a bit tight I never thought I would even be able to get any on. the dress I ended up getting was a size 12 and the sample was a 10. I was a bit worried because I have lost 66 lbs, but still am very conscious about how I look without clothes on. My consultant was very nice and I felt pretty comfortable. On the way to my appointment I told my famOhio I hope I get an older bigger lady so I won’t feel so awkward and I ended up getting a girl my age, pretty, skinny, and I went to high school with her. Good thing she didn’t remember me. Lol

@MrsCreeToBe: I’ve been to two shops, and both times they had dresses ranging from 10-14 as samples. I was told to browse and choose the ones I liked to try on, never once thinking about size. They all fit. OK, one was testy and they had to hold it because it woudln’t close, but that was one of, like, 15 dresses. I, too, range from a 10-14, so some of the samples actually fit without the clamps!! It was a serious bonus, actually, to see the dresses in the size I’m actually going to buy. If you’re still worried, call the salon, but if my experience is anything to go by, you’ll be just fine!

@MrsCreeToBe: im a street size 18 and I went to two high end places and had sooo many options to choose from! They had to be corset back so they could adjust to my size but I had a blast!
