I'm excited. I know it's going to be depressing and supposed to be startlingly realistic but I'm interested in drug fiction.

    Do you like this movie?

    Thoughts (good or bad?)

    Don't do it!

I watched it in college and couldn't sleep for days. It was so disturbing and sad. I won't ever watch it again. However, I do appreciate the "art" of it...it is a well directed film and the cinematography is really great...but not worth having nightmares for me.

Well, then you'll love it. lol  It's really, really good.  In fact, it's on my TiVo now and I'm saving it.  Saw it years ago when it came out.  Have fun and get ready for some gritty drug drama!

I thought it was cheesy and overrated. the scene (with the old lady at the end) that was supposed to be so heart rending just made me crack up a bit, it was so over the top and very unrealistic.

also, it doesn't help that recent Dove commercials keep copping the style that they use for the heroin scenes. (and I think a burger commercial did this too.)

but worth watching! even though I did not have the "proper" emotional reaction to it, I still thought it was pretty. let us know what you think after you see it!

I actually really liked this movie because it shows you the reality of drug addiction. But reality can be scary and disgusting. There are some scary and overly sexual scenes.

I think it is a movie worth watching to know what can happen to your body and mind when you are in a drug induced haze. It's like Scared Straight, but Hollywood style!

Such a great movie.  In terms of originality, I thought it was better than Black Swan.

FI, on the other hand, thought it was horribly depressing - he actually said Black Swan is the first Aronofsky film he has enjoyed watching, and doesn't understand why I would watch Requiem for a Dream more than once.

Such a great movie... one of my favorites... may I suggest: 'Candy' starring Heath Ledger (along the same lines but EVEN BETTER It's about Heroine and a love story gone wrong) and 'Human Traffic'- which is about ecstasy and 'Party Monster'- which is about all kinds of drugs and a murder... all my favorite movies and all along the same lines.

I watched that movie for the first time in college - on my laptop with headphones all alone in my apartment at night. Such a bizarre experience. Let us know what you think!

Haven't seen it yet (keep meaning to) but I love the soundtrack because Clint Mansell is an effing GENIUS.

The beginning wasn't as good for me, until it started nearing the mother's struggle getting worse and worse and them getting deeper and deeper into their problems.

I think that yes, the movie is pretty good. But maybe overdone. I feel like it's nothing I haven't seen before. It was sad, and heartwrenching but I didn't cry. I've seen all of that before in my head.

@SweetRose2011: the only drug fiction that ever made me cry was Candy. That movie is tragic. I still get teary eyed thinking about it... heres a compilation of it:

I think it was a great film, during the time that it was released. But now with torture porn and what not on film, we are just culturally pushing the limits alot more. It was a groundbreaking film at the time, and I think its still really cutting to the core of addiction, but I think if you really want to see what addiction is about in the real world now, watch Intervention.

My college had a movie night and played the director's cut.  I LOVE that movie.  There's just something about how completely depressing it is...and yet the ending is...surprising.  I won't spoil it.

I own it and watch it at least once a year.  It's an interesting piece on choices we make in life and how need can drive addiction.

@bestbuddies:I've been interested in drug fiction for a while. So, I've read several books and watched a bunch of stuff on it. As a fiction writer myself, and working on writing fiction based on drug addiction as best as I can, I feel as though some of the images the movie was portraying are things I've seen before in my creative mind (never have taken drugs before)

    @Bellanouva:exactly.

It was an interesting film and I like what Aronofsky did with it, but it was also profoundly depressing. It's the type of thing I'd watch once, then never again.
