    Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so I'll quickly introduce myself. I got engaged last month and I'm planning a wedding for this July or August overseas! It's unfortunate that I won't be there to see to the details in person, but at the same time I won't be as stressed over having to make decisions.

I've been mulling over accessories for my dress that I bought used from The Brides' Project (a charity organization that sells used wedding dresses and accessories) in Toronto. It was a really lucky find because it was the exact style I wanted and it requires no alterations. Here's me in the dress (please excuse the glasses and bushy hair):

Now I'd like to think of some accessories for the dress and I'm mainly concerned about three things.

First, veil. I've always envisioned myself with a cathedral veil, but when I bought this dress my mom insisted that fingertip would show the details on the train better. I only got to try one chapel length raw edge veil before deciding on the crystal-edged fingertip veil. The veil I have is gorgeous, but I'm still wondering what it would be like to have a cathedral length veil. I also tried a similar style dress at a salon prior to purchasing this dress and loved the cathedral length veil they put on me then.

Second accessory I'm concerned with is sash/belt. I went to a salon with my fiance shortly after we got engaged to get an idea of what he likes. He seemed to like defined waist and even asked for a sash for one of the dresses I was trying on. I'm just wondering whether I should get a sash or a brooch to break up the lace? I'm thinking one with a simple flower or two. The only concern is that I'm quite short (5'3"), so I'm worried about it making me look even shorter.

Third isn't really an accessory, but still related to the dress. Looking at the picture, I think it would be nicer to have a mermaid crinoline or hoop skirt to make it pan out more at the bottom. On the other hand, I really don't like to look of model pictures that seems like the dress is made of cardboard.

So these are the three main things I'm worried about. I can't really go to a bridal salon to try on accessories because I don't really want to pay the markup on these accessories. I also left my dress at my parents' place and won't be seeing it until the wedding.

Any suggestions on any of the three items would be much appreciated! Also, if you wore or are wearing a similar style dress, do you mind sharing what kind of accessories you used/are using? Pictures with your accessories will be very helpful!

    Thanks!

Welcome to the Hive! You are just so stunning in that dress!

I am a huge fan of the cathedral veil, so I am with you in thinking that a cathedral raw edge veil would lool amazing with that dress.  I don't think they hide details at all, they are see through.

I don't think you need a sash or belt, but a blingy one or a small flower one would look great with your dress.  Don't worry about he height issue, that dress lenthens you so would not be an issue, IMO.

I could see a mermaid crinoline with that.  I think that it would give just the right amount of poof at the bottom.

Congratulations on your engagement! And on finding your dress - it is gorgeous on you! About your accessory ideas - a cathedral veil is totally doable with your dress, as long as it is a very delicate lace pattern, and a narrower width so the veil doesn't swallow you up. As for a sash, I wouldn't do anything to "break up the lace" - I think the details of the dress are so beautiful and delicate, don't do anything to hide them! And third, a mermaid crinoline would be gorgeous - the dress is already slightly flounced at the bottom so it should look fantastic! Good luck to you!
