Doctor mentioned stripping membranes at 37 week apt . Long story short.. Baby is measuring behind and she wants to sweep membranes to possibly avoid induction and naturally bring on labor.
However, at today’s cervical check it hurt extremely bad and when doc was done and I got up from the table a gush of blood .. TMI alert… Came out.. Got all over table, down my leg and onto the floor. There was lots of clots and it was bright red. I panicked and called doc back in and she acted like it was totally normal. The next few times I went to restroom the toilet was filled w blood. I also thing I lost my mucus plug a little while later.
Does this sound like my membranes were accidentally stripped? Or does this seem normal after a cervical check? I have not had an ounce of even the faintest spotting this entire pregnancy with an checks.
If this was a membrane sweep, what exactly could this mean? Thanks!

I’ve heard that a bit of bleeding after a cervical check is normal, but if it’s still going and you think you lost your plug you should call them back and ask some questions. I would ask her directly whether or not she swept your membranes. She really shouldn’t have without your consent.

I am not certain but you should go back to the hospital….PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE DOCTOR WORKS FOR YOU, YOU DO NOT WORK FOR THE DOCTOR!!!

Oh gosh! I don’t know if it is normal or not. But I’d say you need to call/go back if you are concerned. Not something to risk. I hope everything is alright.

Sounds like it was a membrane sweep.
Sweeping the membranes can be quite uncomfortable for the woman, and can result in her experiencing period-like cramping (or irregular contractions), often not leading to labour for up to a few hours afterwards. Sometimes, a small amount of bright red bleeding will be noticed for about 24 hours after it is done (as the bleeding stops it can become browner in appearance, which can last for a few days).
