I found out he talked to my dad and I am so bad at secret keeping, I told my sister… and then my Mom… but he knew I found out because he left the evidence in my CAR! Since your SO doesn’t know you found out I’d try your hardest to keep it a secret!!!

I pretty much knew the exact date he would propose. It absolutely killed me, but I told no one, and I’m glad I was able to hold my tongue, it made the eventual announcement more exciting in my opinion. Spazz out on here all you like, it does help 🙂

@futureMrsWatts:  We had mutually agreed that we wanted to be engaged by Thanksgiving so we could tell our families in person (we’re a plane ride away from family). So when he randomly suggested a date night to a fancy restaurant days before we left for the weekend… Yeah, I figured it out. It was still great though, I didn’t know what would happen other than dinner, plus the ring itself was a surprise. I just thought it was hilarious that he really thought he was being sneaky, lol.

Just assume in your head that they were talking about business or something =) I know it is hard but try not to think about it! Just let it happen and dont try to anticipate anything. The worst thing you can do right now is pry or question things out of the ordinary.

Try and let things happen naturally and how he potentially has it planned out. Just pretend in your head he will propose valentines day! and if it happens before then, then it does. But def dont let anyone know you know he talked to your dad. He may get sad if he found out because he obviously tried to keep it a secret and a surprise. I probably wouldnt even want to know she found out if it were my fiancee…even after i had proposed. Because then he would feel the exent of him trying to keep everything a secret failed.

    Good luck and congrats!

Good luck! Yeah, keeping secrets is not a good habit so I understand.

Well keep it together! Keep yourself busy but maybe dress extra nice the next few days =) Whether you know it is coming or not. At that moment…you cant help but be overwhelmed with joy and happiness

I had something similar.  I found out through the grapevine– my FI called my dad on his office number, which is routed through work study students (who I used to coach) and his secretary (who can’t keep a secret). I found out he called and the gist of the conversation. My dad kind of confirmed it with a cryptic email.

My engagement was a surprise to no one and that was totally fine. I knew the ring came on the trip with us. The actual day he proposed was wonderful and I really wasn’t expecting it (as in, I turned around to tell him to hurry up and stop dilly dallying and he was fumbling for the ring box).

I think there is nothing wrong with telling a close girlfriend or your mom. My guess is your dad told your mom and she is so excited to talk to you about it!
