Ahhhhhhh! My SO proposed on Friday, but we’ve been talking weddings for a few months now. I realized early on that we had different ideas of a (reasonable) budget wedding in the DC area. Since the reception is the biggest cost, my fiance’s most recent brilliant idea is to have the wedding in one location, BREAK FOR DINNER – as in people have dinner on their own – then meet in another location two hours later for dancing and whatnot. What?! I’m not willing to ask our guests to pay for dinner on their own just to save some dough. I’d really like to keep some cash in my pocket, but not like this. I’m intent on planning a budget wedding that is still a classy affair, we just need to get on the same page. Ack!
Just had to vent. My fiance (I do like saying that), are having a chat about this right now.

The budget is one of the hardest things to sort out. I hope you are able to come to an agreement so you can start planning.

Dear lord, I read your post to my Fiance, and he agreed. Thank goodness he is not in charge of the budget or the planning. Feed your guests. It’s not worth the headache and drama that will ensue to save on the money.

@FutureMsVW: & @pinkshoes: And they think their ideas are the best ever. Sigh…
@Olive12: & @ejay15: Lol! It’s hilarious that your FIs thought this was a good idea. It’s an awful idea! Oh, boys…I’m determined to feed our guests in a classy manner that doesn’t break the bank. A cocktail reception is a good idea (thanks FutureMsVW), so that’ll be an option if we have an evening wedding.
