Sooo, I never had acne growing up. But now, at 29, acne has sprung it’s nasty little head(s). Cystic acne. My derm put me on oral antibiotics (minocycline 75 mg twice/day) as well as retin-a at night, and Benzaclin topical gel 2x/day. Here’s hoping this wipes my acne out!
Anyone on Retin-A and Benzaclin? I know the 2 aren’t supposed to applied together, so I am wondering how I am going to fit 2 applications of Benzaclin and 1 of Retin-A into my day? I guess I could wash my face in the AM and apply Benzaclin; wash it in the afternoon and apply Benzaclin; wash at night and apply Retin-A….but that seems like alot of washing, wish can also be bad. Any tips or suggestions?
Wish me luck!

Washing your face three times a day?! I just screamed a lil in my mind lol I have another skin problem, eczema! Very persistent & severe eczema so washing my face just once is ugh! Your scheduling for applying the creams sounds perfect. Since your going to be washing your face so often I suggest drinking plenty of water to keep your face hydrated. Wish you lots of luck on clearing up & hope you have a wonderful wedding day!

sweetpea8181: When did your doctor say to use them all? I’ve done Retin-A at night and then benzoyl peroxide in the morning – is it possible that’s what they meant? I’d call and check, because you wouldn’t want to hurt your skin so close to your wedding.

sweetpea8181: I agree with previous poster; could it be a hormonal issue? Do you have pcos? For me, that was what was causing acne, not bacteria in the skin. Birth control has really helped eliminate my acne.

Same here, my acne was caused by hormones and birth control cleared it up for me.

sweetpea8181: too much retinol will just make you red and flaky. It’s more of a long term treatment then a quick fix.
I would try this: http://www.illumask.com/anti-acne-mask/
im using the anti aging one and it’s awesome. It’s newly on the market (but old proven tech) so it’s an exciting product. You can order from ulta.

If it’s hormonal, please look up Vitamin D3 supplements and acne. These days all I do is take D3 and wash and moisturize with gentle sensitive skin products (unmedicated, oil of olay). Sometimes I even skip a wash/moisturize if I have been innactive during the day.

Ask your derm for a specific regimine on what to use in the am/pm and in what order. I use a retinol product in the pm before bed bc it makes my skin super sensitive to sunlight.

sweetpea8181: I can definitely relate- I started getting acne at 24 out of nowhere ):(. I was on benzaclin and retin a for two years and it helped for a while but then stopped working. My derm now put me on ziana (a gel retin a) and a zone in the morning and my gross forehead pimples are finally dying! I love it. i am also getting my hormones on track so that may be helping as well. Good luck !! I know it’s stressful wanting to be clear for your wedding. Have you broken out from the retin a? I only did a tiny bit from ziana but I broke out for three months when I first used tretinoin. Not everyone does though
