I’ve been lurking on this website for about two months, but didn’t feel comfortable officially announcing my suspicions of an impending engagement until today. Today, I have official evidence!!!
I guess I should start by saying a little about me, I am a 22 year old college senior and I have been dating Mr.GreatBrittain for 2 years 3 months. He is a 22 year old graduate student at the same university that I attend.
This past December I was home for the holidays (without Mr.GB) and my entire family seemed to have this new obsession with him. I could not go to a family function without at least 8 people asking me where he was. I thought to myself, this seems fishy, maybe he will surprise me with a birthday/christmas visit. But he didn’t. A few days later, my immediate family was talking about marriage because my older sister and twin sister are currently the MOH for their 24 year old friends wedding this September. Out of no where, my Mom’s long time BF (9 years) said to ME, “I always figured you would be the first to get married.” I thought this was weird because I have an older sister who has dated the same person for 7 years. Why would he think I would get married before them?? Then my sister asked me, “If Mr.GreatBrittain proposed to you, what would you say?” Of course I told them I would say yes, but I wouldn’t want to get married until after we are done with school (This will be December 2011 for me and May 2012 for him.)
Fast forward to three weeks later in early January 2011, I am home from winter break at the apartment/house I “officially unofficially” share with him (it’s two separate apartments that has a door connecting the two). He somehow slyly asks me what kind of E-Ring I would want. I was very surprised by his question, and tried to pretend that I hadn’t just spent the last month on WeddingBee figuring this out. My dream ring is a North South Marquise with a halo and a vintage look, but instead of saying the name of the marquise correctly I described the shape and told him is starts with an “M” so it wouldn’t seem like I had been hoping for a proposal. I think the conversation turned out pretty good.
Earlier this week he was on the phone with a hotel booking a room for his parents to come to my hometown over Spring Break and after hearing the price said, “I’ll have to call you back after I check with my WIFE.” I was in the same room as him, and gave him a weird look (because he was checking with him MOM, not ME. And he said, “What? I’ve wanted to say that for like 3 weeks now.” I gave him another weird look and smiled. Then said he better not be planning on marrying his mom. He laughed.
Yesterday, my Grandma wrote a thing on facebook pertaining to how my “In-Laws” were coming for a visit to our hometown over spring break. I told my BF about the in-law comment and his response was “how do you feel about that” I told him I felt fine, it is just weird that my grandmother would choose to use those words, but that she is clearly excited for his parents visit.
TODAY, I was on my BF’s computer and I happened to see an excel sheet called “Finances” that was created on January 5, 2011. Ooops, I clicked open and in one of the columns (after school, books, bills, and rent) it said “The Ring?” with a “-1,500” cost next to it. OMG could it be??
Now I don’t know if he has purchased The Ring or not, but he is clearly budgeting for it. As college students we don’t have jobs that allow us to save money.
So with all this evidence, I would like to officially be added to the waiting list, and I couldn’t be more excited!!!
