i have been searching for some answers on how to address just the outter envelope. we are not having an inner one for cost sake and i cant find any answers on how to address the envelopes. the main question i have is how to address the outter evelope when you are addressing it to a family with kids. do you put ” Mr. and Mrs. John Purple and Family” or do you say “Mr. and Mrs. John Purple and kids names.” i am so confused on how to do this. any tips would be great!!! thanks!!

I really don’t know the real etiquette here but how about:
“The John Purple Family”?

Hmmm, we didn’t do an inner either. We put all the invited names on the outer, but didn’t invite young children, so I’m not too sure what the standard procedure would be for these guests. One thing I DO know, though, is to not stress too much about it and do whatever you think makes the most sense for you!

We didn’t do envelopes. where it’s a couple, we put Mr and Mrs John Purple. Where family was invited we did the Purple Family. We found we didn’t have enough space on the envelopes for all the lines – and figured that our family wouldn’t hold it against us if it wasn’t perfect Emily Post.
